Nissim Ezekiel (1924-2004) was a prominent Indian writer in English, known for his poetry collections and plays. He was born in Mumbai to a Bene-Israeli Jewish family, and is hailed as the 'Father of Modern Indian English Poetry '.
Nissim's famous poetry collections are: A Time to Change (1952), The Exact Name (1965), and Hymns in Darkness (1976). He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1983 for his poetry collection, 'Latter Day Psalms.'
