Back when Triumphs and ironhead Sportsters ruled, leaded gas was the thing that made em *GO* Take out that TEL and they're unhappy. But another thing is, Triumphs are light.

Triumphs were incredible motors, my Triumph 650 with one carburetor and the valve timing set on LESSER overlap even then when my friends would blast off on their Harleys and I would open it up to catch up it would get to certain RPM and the valve overlap would kick in , the clutch would start slipping all over and suddenly I was flying past them. Like hitting the Nitrous valve or something but it didn't have any.

Awesome vid, loved to see the Triumph, and to hear the stories, what a cool guy,we could all learn a lot from him.mustang fighter planes were of course what the Ford Mustang car was named after,NOT the horse like so many think. The Triumph could have won that last race if it had been in the right hand lane. I had a 350 Triumph,a Triumph 500 speed twin, and a 650 Bonneville with a 750 NORMAN HYDE Morgo kit on it,and those Triumph,s can get up and boogie with a lightened crank in em. That Triumph guy and his Team are keeping history alive,(his story),I wish him and his team the very best of luck and many more wins,LOVE AND RESPECT,from,Auckland,New Zealand.❤⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍😀🙂🙂😉😉😉

Having a 1959 TR6 that was my first bike and a 62 TR6 Chopper that was my first custom built with king queen sugar bear front and diamond tank still in the fleet I can say buy one as a first bike before a sportster as the have no beginner bike drawbacks and all the crowd following big twins have. I'm 39 and happy that dad saw through the bs of the hd dealer and started me proper with a prior nitro iron head sportster that was way more fun than a Vrod Destroyer that just didn't have the value after a few years. BTW feel lucky to have Indians from all 3 indian eras and a knucklehead project.

I had a 63 rigid chopper that I bought as a basket-case for 500 bucks when I was in high-school. My friends dad was a bike guru and had a slew of Brit Bikes. I guess you could say he had an unrivaled love affair with British parallel twins lol! Any how he helped me rebuild the engine and sprinkled some special juju in the mix so that it made around 85hp at the rear wheel. By today's standards that doesn't seem like a whole lot, but when you have a 24" over stock girder front-end it makes for an exhilarating riding experience when grabbing a wrist-full of throttle. If you were not careful you would end up on your back in a quickness. It was pretty quick for what it was and any sudden acceleration at 60mph and under the front-end was coming off the ground which would get your heart to racing. I called it Heart Pounder because it was super sketchy once the ponies were stampeding and the front-end was up. I grew up in an MC and I had old-heads in the club that took my bike for a rip and come back shaking saying that it was the most butt-puckering experience they ever had LMAO! Most of them gave me grief over having a little 650cc powered chopper until they rode it and it took 10 years off their lives and drained them of color Lol! I should never have sold that bike but when you are young, wild, and oblivious to the collectability of something you make impulsive decisions you later kick yourself for.

I bought my first Triumph (basket case) about the same year - still a basket case, just less baskets.. And one more not running, and the most of one more here and there.. I've actually turned into one of those guys, I laughed at being sooo long of building their bikes, when I just had bought it, and read Easyriders and Iron Horse.. Except for the sexy lady, I more or less live like Red Rider - doesn't feel like a succes, but I'm still working on it, and it has been entertaining..

Back in the 60’s & 70’s & even early 80’s nitro was a common use in bill climbs. Saw plenty of H-D’s, Triumphs, Nortons along with some other big twins lift the cylinders due to incorrect timing or what ever made them blow.

From Blighty here. Worked on Bonnies and Cubs. Former multiple champ, with incredible win rate Alf Hagon is 90yo and just about every make of engine was fitted into his frames for speedway, grasstrack, sandracing etc. Front forks too. I`ve used their rear shocks and they still sell loads of kit. Couldn`t The drag racer fit double-plug cyl heads, utilising a decomp valve either side to kick the residual nitro out, instead of having to remove the plugs? Also retainers in case the head was to blow...something to contain the head once most of the explosive energy has ripped the studs out? I saw right bank of a V8 car at The Pod blow a good distance in `78, so I suppose my idea wouldn`t do much good, haha.
