It depends upon the puja your are doing or organizing a puja for ex:- if you are organizing Ganesh Puja so the kalash will be male god so the shringaar should be done as male God and if its a durga puja it will be female god, so it depends upon the pradhan aur main god of the puja Hope You Understood

Tilak will be removed for small idols, ganga pooja items, vibhuti etc daily. For the rest of the idols and photo's, i remove them on Thursdays once a week when i clean the entire pooja room.

No maam, if bilpatre is available then you can offer it. Shiva is the kindest god of all. You can please him even by just thinking about him. That is why he is called bholenath. You can get silver bilpatre done from jewelry shop. They will be very light weight and not that expensive. You can offer that to shivling if you dont get anything else.
