Taro farming, a way of life!
Harvesting taro for the family's weekly supply and also setting the taro shoots for replanting. It is a continuous process so as to maintain the taro production required and the planting material so you don't run out of taro eventually.
Getting the kids to help lightens the load and at the same time passing on the torch of knowledge and know how for them, just like how my father passed it down to me from his father all the way back through many generations.
Taro farming nowadays is way easier compared to back in the days with help of motor vehicles and modern tools.

My doctor told me once to go back to eating like my ancestors. I replied by saying “Yes, I eat pork and taro…” to which the doctor looked at me and said “Go hunt the pig, kill it, clean it, cook it… clean the land, plant the taro, cut the wood, make the umu and cook the food. Your ancestors did not buy the pork and taro Now if you do that, then I’m ok with you eating the pork and taro.” I learned my lesson that day. Thanks for the video, trust me, you are living the good life. I miss it.

Absolutely, Talo Niue is #1 in Samoa but sad there is no more Talo Niue in Samoa after the Leaf Blight that hit the talo plants all over Samoa except the Talo Manu'a, Talo Pa'epa'e & Talo Palagi. All the new talos in Samoa now are Laboratory-made or Scientific Talo.
