If for some reason your evening is so boring that you care about the time you can make the effort to get the watch in exactly the right position to see the hands thus making it clear to anyone looking that they are failing to do enough to entertain you. Beautiful ! It’s interesting how my taste has evolved over my watch journey. I’ve been wearing many different Smiths watches lately, and I’ve grown to love the 36mm case size. I would love this watch in 36mm! However, 38mm is definitely the sweet spot for most people.

OK, those are usually pretty good, grant you. 😙 Remember - A great fairy tale always starts with “Once upon a time.” A great sea story always starts with “OK, this is no shit...”

Love the Nivada Grenchen brand (restoring a linen dial, small seconds 36mm dinner watch of theirs at the moment). That Antarctic might be THE perfect watch, if they made a no date version: AKA, “The Silver Widow.”

The Super Antarctic is on preorder now. I purchased one's , delivery is in March. Much more legible. Tim, I was taught by my father to shine our shoes using Kiwi polish. Brought back great memories. 😊

Beautiful and a watch that has intrigued me from the first moment I saw an example on IG a while before release. I just received the cousin to this watch 2 days ago, the Super Antarctic and the aesthetics and finishing are really beautiful but it looks like maybe they have not sorted the crown out because I have big issues with mine as does a friend that just received his today. Has been keeping good time at +5spd on wrist.

This watch comes like a lightning bolt out of the 1950's 'atomic age'. Absolutely love it! Ok, I wouldn't fancy telling the time in a snowstorm, but that, I now see, is not the point. I can hardly find fault with it, design-wise, and the 100m WR and screwdown crown are a welcome bonus. Btw Tim, love the jacket. Putting doublebreasted lapels on a singlebreasted jacket is not easy to pull off but you've cracked it.

The biggest legibility problem with some watches is that whenever I look at them, I get so distracted by the sheer beauty of the watch that I forget to check the time! This is one of them. BTW. On very nasty and irregular scratches on leather, someone says that smoothing the scratch with fine sand paper before treating it helps the final result. I tested the method once, and as a matter of fact it was easier to treat a more even scratch. Of course, it's a fine line: don't go too hard with the sand paper or you will just make things worse.

Hi Tim, the fact that reading the time is sometimes difficult just adds value to the watch. I design watch dials as a hobby and in some of them reading the time is a real challenge (dial layout changes and never repeats). With those watches, if someone asked you what time it is, you'd have to say, "Let me see... Hmm, I'll tell you in a little while." Regards from Chile!

Someone attempting to read that dial in Antarctica during any sort of weather seems almost farcical. Did the person(s) wearing it make it back from the expedition? How late were they?

How was your communication and buying experience? I wrote them once about wrong titles for the bracelets to choose on their website. Got no response. The site was very fuzzy anyway so I didn't order anything. They got bad social media an bad display for their watches. Anyway the spider is unreadable and the lumen is weak.

I didn't buy that watch. It's a prototype for the press and I have to give it back. Contact was pretty chaotic too.

Interesting watch but not suitable for people suffering from arachnophobia 🥶 Also liked the leather tutorial. I normally achieve the best results with Grison Creme Essentielle which is quite easy to polish and adds nice gloss which helps to mask any scratches. When applied to the whole piece it also provides some protection against future scratches.

Certainly an unusual and cool looking piece, but unfortunately the customer service is complete cr*p. Mine had a problem with the winding mechanism and was mailed back to Nivada nearly ten weeks ago. No reports on the repair from Nivada and they have ignored my last three e-mails. It's hard not to conclude that it's just another revival brand that doesn't give a damn about its products once they're sold.
