Review and thoughts of the Nixieworks LFR. Overall a great piece of gear that I was honored to review. With some changes it could be the perfect “grab and go” setup.

One thing I did on mine is add a set of Qore performance pads on the shoulder straps for the things you mentioned. You can also stuff two Nalgene’s in each side pocket and a ice plate hangs really nicely on the harness if you needed to carry a lot of water. I’m really happy with mine, I’ve used it for hiking but also have used mine in a SAR/brush fire application

Sometimes, it's hard to separate our experiences during our time in service and what our reality would be in a future armed conflict on home soil. Will we have access to all the same equipment we were required to cary? Or a need for it? Will our operations be the same as we conducted down range? Look at the kit guerilla forces normally operate with. They travel much lighter and faster than conventional forces. Spending time on LRS teams and doing both Viet Cong and long hunter reenactments have taught me how little equipment you actually need to survive and complete the mission

I’ve been really wanting this rig for awhile but haven’t ordered one yet. This is probably one of the best reviews of it so far. The longer I wait the more updates they make on the system. I think you brought up some very good criticisms and hopefully in a few months some of them are possibly addressed. I’m going to hold out to see what happens and then for sure going to be picking one up if there are more improvements on it. I live in thick woods with very steep hills along the Mississippi River and this rig looks fantastic for traversing this terrain. Would like to see the excess webbing addressed like you spoke about for less stag issues and it would be perfect. I do however like the large adjustment in the belt for layering though. That’s one big advantage that I haven’t seen much of with other belt kits. It’s gotta be able to fit over the big carharts in the winter if needed 😂

Outside of the belt kit I’m really excited seeing you and others getting your kit together for the inevitable. I was beginning to think I was the only one.

For civilian defense role do you think 6 mags is enough on a rig like this? I was debating upping it to 9

Great review man! I think it’s an excellent 3 season rig and can be worn really light or maxed out. I’ve ran mine with a med alice without frame but next fall i’ll mess with running it maxed without a secondary bag.

Sounds good. Its a decently adaptable rig. You just have to decide if you wana load the buttpack down, or a rucksack down. Cant really do both and play nicely. IMO at least.

Could put a little sleeve over the paired tape and elastic chest strap section. They tend to look OG high speed, though.

In a tropical climate, I've lived out of my butt pack up to 72hrs with full combat load. It sucked, but it's doable.

How do you like the Nixieworks GP pouches compared to the VelSys Jungle GP pouches? Both 3 column molle, so was considering both for my Nixie rig.
@samculpepper7289
@samculpepper7289 Жыл бұрын
Id have to side with the nixie. The jungle GP are nice in that they are relatively un-structured and have a snow skirt. However those can be negatives as well. They make it awkward to access and tend to be floppy trying to do anything with. The nixie is nicer to access and deal with, but because its structured and the material is thicker its somewhat restrictive in terms of capacity.

Reading the Nixieworks blog answers a lot of questions. This is a super niche product meant to be used in conjunction with ultralight camping gear. It’s a great product and is not intended to be worn with a ruck, but ruckcels can’t process that. Good review.

You should check out the Warrior Assault Systems Patrol Belt Kit. Its well balanced and i think that itll solve your issue with the mag pouch retention.

I’ve put a poncho that converts into a hammock and quilt in mine with room to spare. Long as you keep an ultralight mindset you can fit various types of sleep and shelter options.

Great points... really appreciate the insights on the buckles! I need to review how the Ukranians carry their "butt pad/seat" with them while fighting in the mud for so long... Seems like this setup might help for that. The balance of a comfortable belt & essential gear load vs "ditchable" line 3 backpack for sustained operations is an art.

The loose nylon straps on back and chest getting caught on tree branches is a great point too!

Weird question I know but how tall are you? I think I’m wearing my LFR too high. It’s sitting on the top of my hips instead of on them
@samculpepper7289
@samculpepper7289 Жыл бұрын
Im 6’2”. Thats basically where you want belt kit to ride though. The best way i found to set it up is to put the belt on with the harness very loose. Get the belt situated to where its on your pelvic girdle and not falling down. Then tighten the shoulder straps to where it removes a tiny bit of weight off your hips.

Overpriced, thin material, niche product made by a weirdo with no lightfighter infantry experience. Might be ok as a hunting rig but basically an oversized buttpack. Kifaru made a lumbar pack that did the same job better with better construction.

There’s like 25 different SMERSH, LFR, PLCE, jungle kit, Alice, ect modern kits. That are all decent and different. Personally I think jay jays PLCEs are by far the best but I run a velocity jungle kit because it works best with belt feds. SMERSH aren’t anything fancy, equally as niche.
