This performance is the one that placed Niyam Kanungo, one of the three clearly best in this season of Voice India, at the top. Never mind who wins when public voting is the criteria, because votes could be manipulated (not necessarily by the winner or judges but someone entirely elsewhere, perhaps because betting is involved?), as was much clearer in case of the first season of Rising Star. Here the winner was at least amongst the top four or six, which in Rising Star was not so. Niyam Kanungo is a quietly scintillating stellar performer as a singer, very evidently good at classical music, but here was his breathtakingly surprising rendition of an old song, and it was purely all heart! It's a bit surprising the judges could smile and nod approvingly at his superb rendition, because it really brings some of us listening to this song - not for the first time, at that - to a surprising state of tears welling up, even flooding! Danish, who was from the beginning known as the likely topper, was flamboyant in comparison, and his award was well deserved, if not quite all he deserved. These two along with Sharayu Date were clearly the top three, but it wasn't so much the fourth one winning that was off putting, it was the two of the best being voted out before the final, while a much less deserving one reaching the final. Niyam managed to reach the final, which is the least he deserved, as did the two that did not due to being voted out around semifinals. Anyhow, those hearing purely for pleasure of Music do know these three, and that matters far more than who contrived to make whom winner by manipulated voting. That is even more so with the Rising Star where Mythili Thakur, Ankita Kundu, Vikramjeet, Ameya Date - and even little Nikita - were far better than the winner.
