For the train itself it's definitely a New York Penn-Hackettstown via Morristown regarding the line west of Netcong it's the Lackawanna Old Road to Scranton,PA via Washington,NJ where the old Hampton Branch from High Bridge connects to it. Solution here is bring RVL line to Washington,NJ then Phillipsburg via the Hampton Branch

The Alp-45dp is both diesel powered and electric powered. So it can switch power modes when needed

Ever heard of dual mode? That's the point of the changeover, it goes from Electric power to diesel power (and vice-versa)

The locomotive uses either electric power supply (overhead in this case) or diesel power. Both NJT, LIRR and Metro North use these dual power locomotives in and out of NYC where electrification only exists on a portion of the line.

The ALP-45DP is a dual powered loco meaning that it can switch between electric and diesel. Just like here it switched to diesel after lowering the pantograph since the electrification ends after Dover. NJT does it for a lot of their routes

The tracks are electrified far enough west of dover to allow trains to lay up there instead of having to make the low speed move into the yard.
