Residents angry over slow progress of cleanup at Raritan Bay Superfund site

This is so disturbing....This area needs to be cleaned up. Why on earth would you put a pretty wooden walkway and a children's park on A SUPERFUND SITE? Obviously, it's done to hide/minimize the problem. 60 or 70 years of ignoring this problem is unacceptable. Humans, sea life and fowl as well as the ecosystem are suffering. Why is this allowed to happen? Do people think this contamination stays in Laurence Harbor? Seaside Heights and the rest of the coastline must suffer as well. It's all the same waterway/coastline.

It has been like this since the Copper Works in Perth Amboy dumped all this toxic fill in the late 1960's.. Grew Up There and my family was there since the early 1920's

I can't believe that this crap has been allowed to poison our shoreline for all these years. Why is the progress so slow? Have you ever attended a community meeting? I am just trying to understand what's going on and you seem like you may have some information since you have been there so long. Any info would be helpful. Thank you.

People fish and crab like crazy off the bay in perth amboy, isn't that area close enough to be contaminated as well?

Yeah, the EPA needs money. Yes they need to the studies to know exactly how to fix the problem. Do these residents want higher taxes to pay for this superfund clean up?
