Alcohol is an organic compound that carries at least one hydroxy functional group (−OH) bound to a saturated carbon atom. There are various types of alcohol that occur in nature. Human body can also synthesise some amount.. Alcohol is metabolised in body and converted to less toxic products acetic acid,acetyl CoA. But when ethanol consumption is more, toxicity is attributed to its metabolite ' Acetaldehyde' which is more toxic than ethanol.. Formaldehyde, metabolite of methanol, in case of methanol poisoning is responsible for toxic effects.. That's why we say, alcohol is injurious
