The greatest title reign in the history of wrestling, period. Nobody has been able to do it as long, as consistently as Okada.

I've seen all Kobashi's defence match during his reign. Actually only about half of those are really good and interesting matches. Legendary reign indeed but not as good as Okada's.

The difference in reign length though really stands out. Tana had his 12.th defence at 404 days meaning he had to defend the belt like every 1.5 month. Okada on the other hand will have his 12.th defence at 680+ days. I respect the hell out of both but Tana's schedule was clearly a lot more grueling.

And that's a fair assessment. However Okada has seen New Japan through a new era of their expansion into western territories. For many newer fans of the product he has been the only IWGP champion they have ever seen, and is doing far more media appearances than Tanahashi ever did. Also look at the quality of his matches. Of Okada's defenses, all but two received ****+ from Dave Meltzer, with three equaling or ECLIPSING *****. That is insanity.

At that time, there’s also the fact that there were title defenses for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in November (Power Struggle) and December. Not anymore.

There's a difference tho. Okada has been put through hell in each defense. He had to survive Omega's Offense, Suzuki's Submission offense, Shibita's Dangerous strong style moveset, omega again but to a 1 time limit draw, and mostly anymore dangerous strikers. In a way, okada is surviving more

Looks like we've found the bandwagon section. If you weren't watching NJPW before the year 2013, you have NO right to say "As always NJPW > WWE. Every wrestling promotion just like most businesses have their peaks and valleys, and you just started watching NJPW during their peak. You CAN NOT honestly tell me that NJPW the company that was voted "Worst Wrestling Promotion in the World" two years straight, the company that nearly declared bankruptcy multiple times through the late 90s and 2000's was a better promotion than WWE was when those were arguably some of their best and most memorable years. You would be lying if you said NJPW was better

Want Tanahashi to win. Why? If Tanahashi wins, Naito can take the belt off him and then Okada would win the G1 and face Naito for the third time at WK. Naito wins then finally has his year... Okada's still 30 and he has more than a decade to break records so I think they should let him tie Tanahashi for now.

Yes i am down to see okada vs tanahashi but we all know whats going to happen. Okada will win and break or tie or whatever tanahashis record for defenses. Im sorry but okada is not bruno samartino. He shouldnt even have been champ this long. Hes like cena. Just let him have the championship however long he wants. Okada needs to lose and it needs to be to someone that excites the world. Maybe suzuki or a returning shibata. Honestly it shouldve been kenny about a year or 2 ago but now hes lost his mojo.
