I gather David Draiman is a trained Jewish Cantor, not a classically trained opera singer. He says in an interview that one of the band members wanted to do this cover, having loved the song all his life. But he wanted to keep it entirely acoustic. It took a lot to persuade the rest of the band (including David). But for them all it is now a beautiful highlight in their performance set. Paul Simon himself has endorsed this cover as the best version that has been done. I'm in tears every time I listen to it. The power is overwhelming.

I think of each version of this song this way: Simone and Garfunkel is the warning, Disturb is the anger that the warning wasn't listened to, and Pentatonix is the hope that we can come together and fix it. Great reaction!🥰😁

In interview David said they had been looking at 90's song for a cover, then 80's, no luck, David said let's go back to 60's or 70's. One of the band members brought in sos and they all clicked, then one member suggested slowing the tempo... which kicked off a collaboration, then he said he had to figure out how to sing it they did many versions and kept narrowing in on the parts they loved until they came up with this. Paul Simon linked this on his social media , said it made him cry and was the best cover he had ever heard.

Disturbed’s version hits all your musical senses…You see it, feel it, and hear it all in a powerful crescendo into finally uniting the music with the musicians…Brilliant! Thanks for your well felt reaction! I love watching reaction videos of songs that move my soul…However, this cover by ‘Disturbed’ is always stopped for reaction just as it’s building to a new level…99% of male reactors do this, and I have to be honest and descriptive here (wives will understand what I mean🫢)… It’s like the act of physical love being expressed and you are in a rhythmic flow toward a beautiful climax and suddenly… your 6 yo. is knocking on the bedroom door…🙄🫤 Thanks for your beautiful reaction… 🦋Lily🦋

David Draiman...a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do and he makes it look so damn easy! He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance NJ. Try "Deceiver", "The Night", "Indestructible", "The Light", "Enough", "Violence Fetish" by Disturbed too. Btw, David wanted to go back further than they've gone before for a cover and Mike suggested SOS because it was a favorite of his dad's.

I heard that there was a interview with David Draiman, the lead singer, about the band's decision to cover this song. In the course of their conversations, one of the band members (not sure who) said that they should strip down the song, starting with David and just keyboards, and build up from there. I was curious to hear that Disturbed, a heavy metal band, was doing a cover version of a such a classic song. I was expecting this loud and boisterous piece of music. I was shocked and very surprised to hear it. It's an exceptional piece of music and David Draiman is an exceptional musician/artist.

Like the others before me, I HIGHLY recommend watching the live version too. I never listened to heavy metal music before but went on to discover how much I love not just the vocals of Draiman, but the talent of the musicians. Lost my sis this year so listening a lot to 'Hold on to Memories'...another Disturbed vibe similar to this one. The lead singer loves S&G. He was really hesitant to cover this song but they screwed around with it a few times after completing one of their albums (cant remember which one). They ended up keeping it because how good it was. Simon and Garfunkel actually praised them for it. This is amazing. Been listening to them since they came out. Often an overlooked band. You should check out Darkness from their Believe album and Hold On To Memories. Nice reaction man. Loved the vid. Also a person who also has long hair. Like yours man. Well kept.

And just a little side note a lot of people don't know why Paul Simon wrote this song there's a lot of interpretations that you can take from the song but he actually wrote the song about the disconnection of humanity when TV was invented how it was a disconnection from art got people's attention and it got people to talk and now there was a neon God that created a silence in a disconnection of humanity

They came up with the idea when choosing a song to cover and most were thinking songs 80's or 90's but I think David suggested 60 & 70's. One of the others suggested this song . its todays Battle Cry, War Cry. After laying down tracks on the day he was not even due to do any , he did it for three hours and came out of the booth and everyone was stonefaced and just WOW, he came back 3 days later and listened to it when it was ready and he had to look away because his eyes were tearing up and he didn't want the others to see . It was pretty much the first time the whole band was in together at same time which was a rare thing. There's an interview of him talking all about it.

This is an amazing cover of a brilliant song, 1st done by Simon & Garfunkel warning us, if we don't change our ways we are headed for destruction, and Disturbs version is angry, because we didn’t listen to the warnings... 😌 I always feel this song is like a rollercoaster ride, slowly brings you to the top, then crashing to the bottom.....Great reaction!!!

Great reaction! If you enjoyed the studio version, I would very much like to hear your reaction to their live performance of this song on Conan. Despite being ill that day, David Draiman delivered a performance for the ages, complete with an orchestra. Paul Simon reached out to the group after the performance to congratulate them as he posted it on his social media, calling it the best cover of any of his songs ever. Conan celebrated the performance last year as it became the first video from his show to hit 100 million views. Keep up the great work!
