NKP 587 Has been saved! However, she wont be running again anytime soon. But somewhat undergoing restoration.

Yeah 587 is now at the Kentucky Steam Heritage Corp. for restoration but they can’t do it until ITM gets enough funds to do so. So Kentucky Steam is gonna do 2716 first before doing 587, so it’s gonna be a while before 587 is going to run again.

Somehow, I always fancy an alternate history where Grand Trunk 5629 was sold off to the IRM in the 70s, and it eventually took 587's role in 1989 railfan events. Of course, 587 would still be around in such an alternate reality.

June and July 1989, Nickel Plate Road H6o Mikdao 587 was on the Norfolk Southern excursions, the engine was doubleheading pulled the Independence Limited from Bellevue, Ohio to Roanoke, Virginia with Norfolk and Western J class 611 and then on ferry moves with A class 1218 from Roanoke to Lynchburg
