On our 13th birthday, we are re-releasing an old interview from 2015 when Abhinandan Sekhri sat down to agree with ML Sharma, the defence lawyer in the Nirbhaya gang-rape case.
The two found absolutely nothing to agree on. In fact, everything went in the opposite direction.
Sharma talked about what he believes is the root cause of rape, but we were far from convinced. Watch how Newslaundry challenged Sharma’s gyaan on how women should behave or what qualifies as a sexual pass.

I think we need to have gender neutral rape laws at this point. Rape cases are on the rise in this countries and so are false ones. By making a law that puts false allegation of rape on equal footing as actual rape, we will actually help both victims of rape and victims of false allegations. These false cases not only hurt the men but also the real victims of rape. Such a law would ensure that anyone who plans on falsely accusing someone of rape thinks at least twice before doing it.
