I like how each of these Quarter Finalists each had some kind of theme to their victories Devon’s theme was how he was a cowardly heel and required the assistance of his “King’s Congregation” with Bubba and Rhyno Nash’s theme was focused on wearing down his opponents by having blood loss eventually come over them so he can pick up the pieces, but if he gets a good enough opponent he HAS to turn up the heat Bryan’s theme was being the ultimate underdog against all his opponents and taking advantage of his opponents low healthy to take them out early and fast Meanwhile Chono’s victories were all against some form of hero. First Rookie Tanahashi (Who would become New Japan’s hero), then nL hero Misawa, and tournament hero Tenryu. He doesn’t believe heroes exist since he chokes out all in his path. (However Tenryu put up enough of a fight against Chono that Chono had to resort to some less than honorable tactics which suggests he can be beaten.)

That was probably the best first round in tournament history because every match was different Mutoh vs Gladiator was great match that focused on a body part(knee) Joe vs Tenryu was a hardhitting strong style match. Just 2 guys slapping meat Chono vs Tanahashi was a match that focused on david vs goliath with the rookie Tanahashi trying to beat the veteran Chono Kojima vs Misawa was just a classic japan main event that involved a technical masterclass, a dive, and big moves near the end

Pretty much every big wrestling game from Japan rules, both KoCs slap and so do the All Star Pro Wrestling games in my opinion. The best one is Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 by far though, Samoa Joe and AJ Styles both said they wanted the TNA Impact game that came out in 2008 to be like it because of how highly they think of it, that's how good it was

This game proves, along with a few other Japanese wrestling games that speed/aggression (be it in a wrestling game or live show) doesn't mean high impact. This game is fantastic because it doesn't do much, but what it does it delivers impact with almost every move, and that is what "sells" this game: Every move has impact and purpose.

KOCII simmed matches tend to be really good. Much like Fire Pro, each wrestler has a specific logic. But the puroresu style/pacing really does set this game apart. Those different grapple states (clinch, DDT, Tiger Driver, etc.) and limited-use specials add a lot to the drama, and each strike feels like it hurts like hell. Add in a carefully crafted roster of legendary Japanese wrestlers, and you've got one of the best wrestling games ever (for me, the best).

This is one of those tournaments where there is absolutely no shame in being eliminated in the first round. Even if the guy who beat you gets eliminated immediately after, they're all goddamn legends of the game. Also, that Gladiator/Mutoh match went scarily similarly to their one real life encounter!
