Why use plywood, if you just use chipboard instead? And no, HPL is not the same as melamine in terms of properties. HPL is much more durable than melamine.

Melamine plywood and melamine chipboard are same?

plywood ar more water-resistant and stronger than chipboard that's why woodworkers prefer plywood. chipboards are not so durable and not as strong as plywood but plywood bends chipboard doesn't.
