The honesty in Martin talking about "How not to drown" is why interviews/podcasts/epidodics etc. are so good for us to understand just how much these insanely talented artists are still just dealing with the same Sh!t the rest of us deal with. Appreciate you putting this together for us

this album is everything to me rn, the horror tropes peppered throughout, the trauma and resolution; the most emotionally heavy album they've made, a wonderful concept album, a soundtrack to the horror movie which is my head

10:30 I canNOT believe Martin mentions "Music for the Jilted Generation" by The Prodigy is an influence for both him and Iain when talking bout Violent Delights. I friggin love that Prodigy record. I remember hearing "Voodoo People" and "One Love" in the movie Hackers back in the mid-90s, so good. And I hear the influence on Violent Delights. Chvrches hit a home run with this album.

Also I remember I heard Lauren once say in an interview that after the guardian article first came out and it was all anyone wanted to talk about they had like an argument about it. And I remember thinking oh no do the guys not get it, but from this interview they so do. Like men never really seem to get it but Iain and Martin just seem to understand. I love that.

I know Lauren said that nightmares is the only song that’s actually about relationships but honestly better if you don’t hits me so hard for that, I guess it’s the concept of a place in time, that can be a relationship, but that song just hits me in a different way

As one of the apparently few people who liked the more pop-like direction CHVRCHES took with Love is Dead, I wasn't expecting to really like this album when I heard it was a lot grittier than their previous work. I should have never doubted them. Screen Violence is now my favorite album, and I don't mean CHVRCHES album.

I don't love the third album, but it got a lot me people around me to start listening to this band, so I'm thankful to have it. Also, "Get Out" and "Never Say Die" are awesome.

@@citizenkaneVII My brother told me about this band a long time ago, but I totally forgot about it until Never Say Die came up on my KZbin feed sometime in 2018 shortly after Love is Dead was released. That was song that led me to look into their other discography, and CHVRCHES has even my favorite band ever since.

it's interesting that Lauren says that HSSS and Good Girls "aren't in the horror space so much" because gaslighting and toxic gender dynamics are themes that for me feature heavily in horror

Awesome talk about the thought process for each track, was fun to gain insight into. However, I'm a bit confused regarding what Lauren said for "He Said She Said" and "Nightmares". For "HSSS" she says the track focuses on personal experiences in relationships, but when she talks about "Nightmares" she says that track is the only one on the album that is actually about a relationship. I'm assuming she meant that "HSSS" is discussing experiences in relationships in a broad-ish sense while "Nightmares" is discussing more specific details from a particular relationship of hers. Idk, just was a bit confusing to me.
@elijahsantos5183 жыл бұрын
i’m not sure if my response will suffice but imo HSSS definitely isn’t about relationships themselves. the ‘personal experiences’ lauren mentioned must have something to do with mansplaining (hence the title he said she said) or the ridiculous remarks she received from men in her life ("It's all in your head", “be sad but don’t be depressed”). i strongly agree with your assumption though. he said she said seems to capture a broader female experience, and nightmare carries a more confessional, intimate tone.
@opal.scales3 жыл бұрын
Ah, that was along the lines of what I was thinking. I totally agree. Thank you for your response!!
