(disclaimer, I am no expert, at all) Yes Nick, wolfdogs do, in fact, look like large working dog breeds such as a German Shepher, Samoyed or Husky. In fact, these are the breeds that are used to mate with actual wolves to create wolfdog, to my knowledge. A real wolf, on the other hand, would be the size of a Great Dane, but nowhere near as lumbering. Imagine a Husky or German Shepher the size of a Great Dane!

She explained it a bunch of times afaik, not sure if on specific stream tho. Here's the tldr: Like dingos and coyotes wolfs are wild undomesticated animals, and as such dangerous and unpredictable. Dogs are the domesticated version of wolfs, it took humans over 15k years to accomplish that. Breeding wolf and dog will get you a wolf dog hybrid. There's a fairly big market for them out there, lot's of people like the idea of owning a wolf. And sometimes breeding them works out... The ideal wolfdog puppy is essentially a wolf-like looking dog with some novel (but non dangerous) wolf behaviour. But for every 1 wolfdog puppy with just the right genes there's 3 who got the wrong parts of their wolf side and who can't in good conscience live in someone's house. Sucks, they are too much dog to be released but too much wolf to be sold and live as a dog... their only options are sanctuaries/zoos/euthanasia.
