Oh yeah. Diagnosis is sometimes so elusive. Low grade laminitis? But no definitive diagnosis. Thanks, Wendy, for always coming back to reality. We do what we can.

Question: you mentioned LOW ESC what does that mean
@TheHumbleHoof
@TheHumbleHoof 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marques! ESC is ethanol soluble carbs, or sugar. For horses in rehab, I look for less than 10% ESC + carbs combined in a feed, where starch is lower than 4% (so for example, 3% starch and 7% ESC may be the cusp of what a horse can handle in hoof rehab).

@@TheHumbleHoof does this pertain to grains or alfalfa as well. I’m new to horse ownership and we the wife and I decided to go barefoot with the help of our great farrier. He’s the one who introduced you and Mr Ramey to us. Love your podcast and videos on KZbin. So mainly I’m concerned with sugar and carbs. I’m aware of them I’m diabetic.

Yes! It pertains to anything they eat. I mentioned in this video why I avoid alfalfa for hoof rehab, as it can cause hoof sensitivity and issues in some sensitive horses, even though it is low sugar and starch. Some horses do okay on it though!

@@TheHumbleHoof to be clear your a proponent of hay/mineral balancing during rehab transition to barefoot. Once on that diet why would you change? Sorry for all the queries. This is such a complex subject

I'm sorry I'm not sure I understand your question - my clients stay on a forage based mineral balanced diet indefinitely, as long as the owner is able and willing
