Janet Jones applies brain research to the training of horses and riders. She earned her Ph.D. from UCLA and taught the neuroscience of perception, language, memory, and thought for 23 years. Janet trained horses at a large stable early in her career, and later ran a successful horse training business of her own. She has schooled hundreds of green or difficult horses and competed in hunter, jumper, halter, reining, and western pleasure disciplines.

I've learned so much from reading your book and this interview brings it to life. Janet, I hope more people read your book so there's a better understanding of our equine partners. Thank you for your amazing work.

1:10:37 'What is the most interesting thing you have found'? Janet's response 'That human brains actively prevents us from understanding other animals' brains' Wow. What a statement to end on!

We don't command, the horse should be asked. It's a yes or no game. Blessings

I likewise have a degree in Neuroscience, but only a Master's degree. I find so few horse people understand what horses actually perceive and how they can learn best. Love the book!

Nice session, but would be useful to know more about how theory of the brain affects training strategies. What mistakes are we making in the normal approaches to schooling horses?

Horses do not take 45 min to adapt to the dark. They are nocturnal animals who live outside.
