I'm in vet med school at MSU now, and love having Dr. Valberg - I didn't know she's retiring! I'm so sad! :( Thank you both for doing this!

I am a farrier and I used to shoe a horse for an owner that had shivers . It was a big warm blood horse and it was very hard work and it tested the patience . After a few shoeings I had to decline to do the horse anymore because it became a huge job and was dangerous nailing on a shoe to the horse that could put its foot down mid way through driving a nail . When I would pick the hoof up the horse would snap it up abruptly and hold it up tight then give it then snap it up again . To be honest it became a hopeless task . The owner decided to call the vet and he sedated the horse to be shod and it was a remarkable difference . It stood very well and I got the job done without hassle although I had to work very fast . Of course it added up to a very expensive shoeing but it was great for me as the farrier .

My 15hh gaited mare was misdiagnosed with shivers. The vet deemed her retired. We fed her with high doses of vitamin e and also accupucture for a few months and now 4 years later no symptoms since.

There is no cure until today. Nobody can tell today if there will be a cure and when.
