Bree Hall made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:14 remaining, and No. 1 South Carolina rallied from an 11-point deficit to beat ninth-ranked and defending national champion LSU 76-70 on Thursday night.
Chloe Kitts scored 14 points to lead the Gamecocks (18-0, 6-0 Southeastern Conference), who beat the Tigers (18-3, 5-2) for the 15th straight time and snapped LSU’s 29-game home winning streak.
Raven Johnson had 13 points, Te-Hina Paopao 12 and Kamilla Cardoso 11. Hall finished with 10 points, eight in the final seven minutes.
Aneesah Morrow had 16 points and 13 rebounds for LSU. Angel Reese had 15 points and eight rebounds but fouled out with 4:02 left and the Tigers clinging to a 67-65 lead. Johnson hit two free throws to tie it, and LSU made only one basket the rest of the way - a 3-pointer by Hailey Van Lith that tied the game at 70-all with 1:42 left.
Van Lith finished with 12 points. Mikaylah Williams scored 12 and Flau’jae Johnson had 10.
LSU led 24-18 after one quarter and 41-30 late in the second, but the Gamecocks closed the period with a 6-0 run, including a 3 by MiLaysia Fulwiley at the buzzer.
South Carolina took its first lead since the first basket of the game when Cardoso converted a layup for a 63-61 advantage with 6:06 left in the fourth.

South Carolina’s victory over the Tigers marked the 1000th win in the program’s history.
The win marked the end of LSU’s 29 game win streak at home and extended the Gamecocks’ SEC-record road win streak to 28.
South Carolina faced a halftime deficit for just the second time this season, rallying for the win both times.
After a six-point deficit in the first quarter, the South Carolina offense took charge, outscoring LSU in each of the remaining three periods, including finishing each half on a 6-0 run.
For the 12th time this season - the Gamecocks finished with five or more players in double-figures.
Chloe Kitts proved to be invaluable early on, scoring nine of the team’s first 11 points en route to a new SEC career-high 14.
Raven Johnson finished with a near double-double, putting up 13 points and nine boards, all while dishing out four assists. Johnson had half of the Gamecocks’ 6-0 run to finish out the game.
Bree Hall got hot right when it mattered, scoring eight of her 10 points in the final quarter, including back-to-back 3s to extend South Carolina’s lead going into the final minute of play.
Te-Hina Paopao had her 16th game hitting two or more 3s, finishing in double-digits for the 14th time this season while leading the team with an SEC-high six assists.
Kamilla Cardoso dominated in the second half, powering home eight points and five boards playing all 20 minutes to close out the game.

That score was so close. Both teams did amazing. Losses are just as important as the wins, because it allows the team to realize “we can’t get too comfortable” and it allows them to see where their flaws are, and what needs to be fixed and improved on. What makes me angry are their haters. I get it, everyone is allowed to have their opinions but why do some people hate LSU so much, and why are some people so against them to the point of basically bullying some of the girls online? (Angel, and Hailey the most) those girls haven’t done anything wrong/bad to anyone in general….all they did was win a national championship and be proud about it, and all of a sudden they receive hate. Why? It’s one thing to favor a certain teams over another, but to be so against one team to the point of never wanting them to win and hating on some of their key players…..that’s just weird, and disrespectful, and it’s sad that I’m one of the very few people calling it out for what it is….hate and bullying.

Now that I watched it again the 1st foul on Reese that they, (Mulky & Lobo) blamed on Hvl was a bad pass but Reese still didn't have to foul. If Angel didn't get all in the girl face when it was 70 all she might have mad a better decision instead of slipping into hero ball. Reese played well, but that foul was all on her. Knowing you can't pick up a foul, either let Raven score or trust the other defenders around her. If she had 2 fouls to give, ok, go for the block. She had a lack of awareness there, but overall she played well. Needed more help from Big 4 in the 2nd half.

It is aggravated stupidity to have Reese playing a back to the ball game against taller opponents. She should have been in her face up game from the elbows where she could have used her quickness and ball handling drives to the basket. Reese's game is stagnant in Mulkey's system. Someone in the pro game will know how to use her talents. Mulkey is only concerned with running her inside out system which doesn't always put the players in the best position to utilize their skills. I'm glad Reese is moving on before Kim severely damages her confidence and career. Reese torched SC when she was at Maryland with her face up and fast break game she looks terrible at the five in Mulkey's systems.😮

During the Worlds, Cordoso was giving Reese everything she could handle and Brazil took the gold from Team USA. Exciting but technically poor match; the fear of losing influenced both teams, who made a lot of mistakes and LSU could have even won. Nice game from Reese who has to learn to choose the moment to make fouls and take into account that she can't always get away with it when she makes them. Good game also from HVL which was partly affected by improvident decisions, but she is not new to this. SCU plays with the handbrake on, I don't know how much thanks to LSU; I liked Kitts and expected more from Cardoso

The refs definitely gave that game to SC, but we'll see what they can do in the NCAA tournament. They will definitely lose against Colorado and teams in other conferences if they don't manage their turnovers and shoot better. LSU doesn't have dept at all positions and that will be a problem if injuries occur. LSU will know what to do next time they meet and in the SEC tournament.

Well, from what I read I'm assuming that was a trip on Reese. It says a player can't trip another with their arms or legs. I didn't see anything about body or incidental contact as far as 1 player causing another to fall. If it's correct though why is Lobo running her mouth? I think it was a foul. A pdf of the rule book is available for anybody that want to give it a more detailed read.

That 4th foul was questionable, but it showed Angel grabbing the jersey of Cordoso and pulling her down as they both were going to the floor...that was a silly foul by Reese which proved to be costly.

Her 3rd foul Hailey threw a bad pass, too late, to her front shoulder instead of her back shoulder which caused her to go over the back.. the 4th foul could go either way honestly since she fell down.. the 5th foul Hailey threw another bad pass and she fouled the girl in transition trying to block the shot.. so those bad passes did contribute to bad fouls

HVL is a good player. She is just on the wrong team and in the wrong position. She is not a PG, and LSU's system doesn't fit her. LSU are built like SC, and noth teams need a true PG to control the flow of the offence , get the ball inside to the bigs and make smart decisions. She doesn't do any of those things. She is a scorer, and thats it. I would rather lose with Velez at point, a natural PG, than lose with HVL at point. Velez will gain experience for next season.

I watch all of these multiple times at .25 playback and screen zoom ins: 0:28 -- 😂 How many steps do you get in ncaa wbb? 2:18 -- a less obvious travel but it's called 4:50 -- Cardoso's block was awesome but she should have been T'd or a warning to her bench that the taunting would be called if repeated 10:49 -- looked like a clean block but Reese fouled her on the drive 15:58 -- should have been foul on Cardoso for jumping into the shooter 16:40 -- Paupau drives into four defenders, Reese pushed her to the ground on rebound, no foul called 17:28 -- angle does not show if Reese fouled Cardoso or not 17:58 -- split-second judgement call maybe, to me it looks like defender was not set 18:20 -- Kitts travel no call 18:31 -- Ryan mentions Cardoso's taunting this time though he does not use that word 18:42 -- Cardoso should definitely been T'd here, in addition... it was not a clean block but definitely a foul 19:06 -- Reese probably fouled Cardoso with a push to her back, Cardoso probably traveled but it's called a clean block, Reese gives a quick look to the side or backwards possibly at Cardoso but it is not the taunting that was done to her twice 23:46 -- another uncalled travel 24:37 -- Reese's center of gravity is low so she goes down easily but technically, it is Cardoso who pushes Reese to the ground by leaning and pushing into her from behind. Refs may have felt Reese was low to the ground as a way to enduce a foul could be why they called it on Reese. ??? Rebecca said it was not a good call, which is what LSU radio broadcast people said too. 27:11 -- charge? flop? or both? 😂 29:00 -- Reese extends arm and hand forward then quickly brings it back but from this angle we cannot see if she fouled or not. Two other LSU players are there, one of whom may have committed the foul as the LSU radio peeps argued. We get no alternate angle replay here to see for sure who did the foul. 29:05 -- Ryan starts the scapegoating of HVL that continued on Quita's show last night Conclusion: Refs missed calls through the game that benefitted both teams but late in the game, they may have targeted Reese to get her out of the game to ensure SC victory. And I am sure SC is not happy about it, that they want legit victories without the refs rigging outcomes for or against them. But I would say also that the evidence from within the game is inconclusive and that it is evidence gathered outside the game that will decide criminal trials. Remember, the martyrs go to heaven and there is joy not sorrow there.

Is anybody really looking at the big pic cuz SC.realky got lucky they didn't beat LSU ,cuz LSU dominated the whole gm until Reese fouled out they only beat them by 6 pts n they wouldn't have won if Reese had stayed n the GM ,everybody thought SC was gonna run all thru LSU cuz they were undefeated but LSU showed them who boss fr the jump so that to me was a lucky win .cuz they got rid of the star player

This was a big game. LSU w. as not only the defending National Champion but was the consensus number 1 coming into the season and had the players to back up that consensus. South Carolina was not supposed to be this good, this year. That team is relatively young, and I don't know who thought that South Carolina would have blown out LSU. LSU played a very good game. South Carolina did not yet find a way to win. This game was very March Madness like. Expecting great things from both teams this season.

No hate whatsoever, but this was NOT Kamilla’s game and I hateeee that ESPN and other networks are showcasing her so much. She’ll have to fix it in order to win the ‘ship. Give that love to the offensive influence of Chloe Kitts and the clutch save by Bree Hall. Angel shouldn’t have fouled as much, but I think she played very well and kept LSU in this game considering that HVL and Mikayla were both struggling. I am SO amped to see this rematch in the SEC tournament 🎉🎉

If refs did their job every night Reese would be in foul trouble a lot. Cardoso is 🗑 if she gets drafted it's because she's tall. She didn't know what she was doing. Dnt know if they shoulda fouled her out but it was good to see them not allow her to wildly draw fouls, especially in this matchup.

Ima need ADR to get mad because she was too passive, like she was intimidated by Cardoza or something and you're the same size.. she scored like 7 or 8 points out of 11 on ADR but she was outplayed by angel and aneesa honestly.. she is big and has some good post moves but she is not the immovable force that people made her out to be before the game.. angel shut her down for the majority of the game.. so ADR needs to use that big frame she was given to its potential

This is another game that was decided by disgusting referees. The game momentum changed when Angel was wrongly called for her 4th foul. It was Cardoso who fouled Angel and pushed her to the floor. So sick and tired of referees ruining the game of basketball.

LSU could have easily won the game and handly I might add. Too bad Makila didn't make a statement with her shot making ability she shot poorly on shots she normally knocks down. For LSU to be a Mulkey led team with the errors they make they come off as poorly coached or its more reflective of the fact that the team is not led by a seasoned point guard. HVL is a horrible PG and some of the assignments Mulkey trust her with at the PG is ridiculous. Her passing is atrocious and I'd never have her inbound the ball. I feel bad that the team is having to suffer through her attempted transformation to a PG. Her coach at Louisville was far smarter than Mulkey in recognizing that she has extremely limited ability to play PG. I know he is smiling he kooking like letting her go and bringing in a point guard was genius 😅. HVL attempt at playing the PG is one of the reasons for a non productive LSU season which will be Reese's last. Losing KP probably because of giving HVL. all the PG minutes and the injury to Smith crushed their hopes of a repeat. People forget KO left Ohio State and came to LSU was because she wanted to play PG. She thought that would happen after Alexis graduated. Then Mulkey decided it was more important to give HVL the chance since she once recruited her I suppose. It's because of who HVL is that she is getting an extended opportunity to play the minutes and practice the PG position. If she was anybody else Mulkey would have been sat her down or sent her back to her natural position. I don't know why Mulkey is so vested in HVL running her team she is an awful PG, Im sorry it must be an ego thing. Its possible LSU won't make the NCAA playoffs this year. This game deflated their confidence but HVL acts like she played an excellent game. I really wish they had passed on her. She would have been a disaster on a Catkin Clark team too of course she would never have played the PG. Well it was fun while it lasted but as the season goes by it is LSU that looks like its in a rebuild.
