So - my former best friend,. . . let's call him Ralph. He had 2 children with a lady who was in love with him. They had a contentious break up, then Ralph moved on to another lady and had a child. The mother of Ralph's first 2 children also moved on and had more children with another man. The 2 children now feel that both parents have moved on, and so their biological children feel like their biological parents treat them like step children. It's super odd and I haven't communicated with them ever since (the adults). The 2 children are my godchildren.

THANK YOU for saying this. I think it is even more poignant coming from a father. I say this all of the time, that 99% of the time when parents and adult children are estranged, it is because of the parent, not the adult child, and that it means you were not the parent you should have been and were not the parent that they needed - that you essentially failed as a parent. I guess I am so used to hearing absentee fathers claim (like mine did) that they were "always there" and actually believe that narrative that is is a little jarring hearing a father actually say this - so, thank you. I said on another video that estranged or not, no loving parent would give a new child the name they already gave to their firstborn. Estrangement or not, no loving parent would expose their child's alleged sexual history as a justification for why their relationship is strained. It is not even relevant, so for a father to bring that up about his daughter in a completely unrelated context shows his character. Furthermore, even if his statements were true, when teen girls are promiscuous, it is usually because they are looking for what they were clearly not getting from their father. So, even if it were true, that is still a reflection on him and who he was (or was not) as a father in his daughter's life. It is easier for him to take two kids who came packaged and were raised differently. He can absolve himself of his lack of parenting skills and pretend the problem wasn't him. But his inability to take any accountability for his relationship with his kids means he hasn't learned, still thinks it is about his kids and not his past parenting, and this means he WILL go on to make the same mistakes with his new son. Perhaps it will be mitigated by his wife depending on the kind of parent she is, but that remains to be seen.

Brian is legally divorced from his former wife and based on today's society many famous celebrities have previous spouses and children. Sometimes they still get along and some don't. This narrative that Brian is a deadbeat father is false and utterly preposterous. Brian McKnight is not a deadbeat he used to bring BJ and Niko on tour with him to many places. They both lived with Brian before he got re-married and he even helped them get their own apartments and a job at the hospital.
