No Audio Interface? Don't Worry - I'll Tell You How to Easily Fix That

In this video I share how to record audio and midi data in Cakewalk with no audio interface. Yes it is helpful to have an interface but you do not need one to use the Free DAW. You will be able to use the internal sound card that comes with your computer. It's as simple as changin the audio preferences in Cakewalk by Bandlab.

Reminds me of my first recordings, my guitar into a Digitech multi effects pedal into the computer microphone input using Audacity as my daw. That was back in 2005. The limitations of that setup made me get creative, lol. I did drum tracks first with the drum machine, then bass tracks by dropping my guitar an octave with the pitch shifter, then used the amp simulators for rythum and lead tracks, and finally the vocals. Lots of work but I'm glad I did it

If you are not hearing any sound at all. Make sure your audio devices are set to your internal sound card under edit/preferences Let me know if this helps and if not I have more info to give. All the best!

Hey man thanks for this upload since I don't have an interface, this comes in handy. I just installed cakewalk because I want to play my keyboard during livestreams with a more high-quality sound instead of using an outside mic that picks up my fingers hitting the keys. Idk if you answered this or not but I have a presonus mbox. I normally can hook right up to any laptop and it lets me record. But it’s only showing in my output on cakewalk instead of the input. Idk what the issue is.

Is your settings on ASIO drivers? Do you see any other inputs available. Do you have the Presonus Audio Box or the Avid Mbox?

Are you set on Wasapi Shared? Check the playback and recording under Edit / Preferences. Make sure you see your internal sound card enabled for playback. It’s often something simple like making sure the Master Track in Cakewalk is set to your sound device.

Sorry you are having this issue. Do you hear sound out of your computer normally but not Cakewalk? Is the audio interface showing up in your sound devices? You can check this in Cakewalk under Edit/preferences. Look for Audio - Playback and recording - Driver mode. Make sure it set to ASIO drivers. Make sure your interface is selected as Output and Input. If you still notice issues. Make sure you have the current driver for interface installed and then also try changing usb ports. Always make sure the interface is on before you start Cakewalk. Let me know if this helps. All the best!

i have mic problem in cake walk when i record from my mic the playback sounds speed up and makes my sound like the chimp munks i like cake walk but ever since i bumped into this issue it make me wanna throw the whole software away. can i get some help

This is a questions I have received at least 10 times on here. I’m gonna make a video to go into more details. I would try switching to wasapi, wdm or mme to see if that makes a difference. You can also check the sample rate (44.1khz, etc) and make sure it matches what your sound card or interface can handle.

@SubiksaSoundar make sure your output in Cakewalk is set to 🎧. It may still be on the laptop speakers. Check the output of your Master track or go to edit preferences then playback and recording tab. Let me know if you still have trouble

There is no line in on that piece of shit macbook (as well as all these shitty modern laptops). There os not even a USB in, just 2 fucking USB-C jacks and a headphone out. I paid £1000 for that piece of garbage, that lacks BASIC functions any laptop should have. How the actual hell do I get audio onto that piece of trash, without an interface and a crap ton of cables/converters??

The headphone output works as output and an input. As long as it has a 3/8 inch jack you can record

@JustDaNorm Nope. Doesn't work. It's only expecting a headphone with a mic, but it's not an audio input for instruments. Piece of crap. Honestly, I'm sick of these shitty "helpful" modern devices that do exactly what the older 2010s era ones did but with less features and more useless gadgets for lazy people that nobody needs.
