@@ellemieke88 The peroxide developer has a slight lightening effect, just have to be careful not to overdo it or you risk going into orange territory. If you want to naturally lighten your dark/black hair to a dark brown I would try honey. Leave it on as a mask before shower and wash it off. Honey naturally has 1-2% peroxide.

For those determined to color their own hair: Just to clarify, light colors wont show up on dark hair unless the dark color has been lifted or lightened in some way. You can sometimes get away with not doing a bleaching step before color by using a stronger developer. This only works if you're going 1-3 levels lighter. Any more and you'd need to actually bleach it before coloring. She's permanently no longer a dark brown on the hair she already has, but it doesn't affect her new growth. ❤
