ACCURATE. Breast surgery of any kind removes the tumor/s, whether BEFORE or AFTER starting chemo if that's what is needed. It ensures that your chances of recurrence is drastically reduced, especially if it's early-advanced stage. Even stage 0...my grandma had a choice of either radiation or mastectomy at stage 0. She chose surgery with no reconstruction. This was mid 90s, she was in her 70s. She did voice regret of not getting reconstruction as lopsided feeling was uncomfortable. Noting this, tho, she was a larger woman. So, I think that played a part in the discomfort. My great aunt did radiation and partial mastectomy I believe. My mom did the same. My aunt, her sister, only needed surgery with added Tamoxafen and had no time for recurrence with two kids and a husband. She did full mastectomy, single. I did the same as I had and still have no interest in recurrence, especially given my grace being 3. Yes, it can come back at any time, but I believe mastectomy decreases the chances more than partial. Just my opinion bass on my mom's experience I talk of next. Apparently it's all the same in prognosis. But, my mom's came back last year when I was newly diagnosed and I 💯% believe it wouldn't have if she had gotten full single mastectomy given it's location this time. Still in the breast, attached to the nipple. Full mastectomy would have rid of that cancer cell that was sleeping 26 yrs. Crazy. But, even tho it's Stage 3 B her prognosis is 97% survival past 5 yrs on Femera in her early 70s. Even crazier is this, mine is 93% at age 37-38. Stage 2 A., no nodes. Currently on Tamoxifen, just started Fall 2021. Hers is still grade 2, tho. It never changed grade because it's literally same tumor. Almost unheard of and no one can understand it. Mammaprint tells all, tho. First lied stating it wasn't recurrence, tho. Apparently, insurance doesn't pay if it's recurrence. Makes no sense. They said it makes no difference and still tells your story. 😳😳

Necrosis occurred from my Double Masectomy….& it came back 4 times. I ended up in the Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber for 6 visits. I STILL lost so much skin that I HAD to go flat! The surgeon said that the S.P.Y. machine showed no Oxygenated blood flow & my healing would be severely impaired. She said they could go in again & take it from my back shoulder…..which tends to have a better oxygen flow in the blood. I decided not to. After a total of 9 surgeries I quit & have accepted the outcome. I have 18 more months on EXEMESTANE…..& then I can stop this Adjuvant Chemotherapy. How common is repeated Necrosis from a Double Masectomy?

You have been through so much. Your story is really uncommon. I'm not sure that's helpful to hear. I hope you heal quickly.

I never heard of an oncologist getting breast cancer. Do they have super good genes ??
@yerbba7 ай бұрын
Just like other people, many oncologists have had breast and other cancers. Doctors tend not to share their personal health history to avoid an inversion of the patient-doctor relationship.
