New subscriber here. I love how u decorated ur van. I just bought those shelves at Walmart. The brand is Hart, paid about $50. This is the heavy duty size 25”x 36”. Caravan Carolyn uses these & she explained how she cuts the legs to account for the unevenness of the Grand Caravan van floor. I believe she also used the gutter guards. I look forward to following ur adventures. Cheers, Mo in NJ P.S. I just had to come back to comment further because I just read your “About” section and love, love, love what you have written. ALL. You got it!!! sometimes we just need the highway, that is it!!! (and I am sorry it took me this long to respond, KZbin blocked some of the comments so I couldn't access them until right now, they are working on a fix for the problem) A marine? WOW thank you for your service! My youngest son was about to join the marines, I was super scared, and then he met a girl and she said: "no way" that was it, she was convincing LOL As a retired marine, you also have access to awesome military campground that are kept in pristine shape and are usually located in the best sites, by beaches and other great places. I knnow some of them are also available for civilians but I haven't tried them yet. A minivan camper also allows you to be extremely unnoticeable! I parked for a few night on some streets in the San Diego area and it was super convenient to be so stealth, nobody could tell it was a camper but I was in there indeed. Welcome to the lifestyle, super relaxed and rewarding if you ask me! Thank you very much for your comment, Adriana :)

@@Manyroadsnorules It's called Summerfolk and it's in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. It is very much altered this year because of covid, so I am giving myself pep talks so I won't be grumpy. They get lots of wonderful performers. "Folk" is a wide umbrella, so there's usually lots of variety. Usually, there is what I consider to be a high end craft show, with jewellery, hand made clothes, furniture, hand made musical instruments, pottery, etc.. Not this time. We started going almost 30 years and have missed only a few. It's my happy place. Camping (of course, not like regular camping), friends, time to relax, then sitting outside or in a big tent, maybe with a beer, and people sing to us.. I'll stop now, but I could go on and on and on. If you ever get the chance, I think you might enjoy it, although not everyone likes it as much as I do. Third weekend of August every year. Having a huge, high quality mattress was the only thing that made me doubt about going to the sunset in a minivan. The width is the only measurement I remember off the top of my head: 27 inches (which is 12 inches narrower than a regular twin size mattress. I did something "weird", I put some books on my bed where the 27 inch mark was and I slept that night there, restricted by the books. Thank you David for your super kind comment, I highly appreciate kindness!!! Let me tell you I have changed many things since that first van tour. The most significant change was the position of the bed which now allows me to access everything from inside in case it is raining outside. OMG you have no idea how much I love that coffee cup!!! I got it from a pottery studio in Etsy. The name of the maker is Julia Dean. She shares that she walks in the forest that surrounds her studio and she picks up leaves that she then applies to the pottery before burning the pieces, that way, each piece is unique and I like to think, they contain man-made fossils, my cup preserves the "soul" of a few leaves that were once on a tree. There is one from a ginko! (Sorry I get all carried away when I talk about my mug LOL) Thank you for your comment! You did a great job on your no-build build. It looks very comfortable & organized. I just returned from my first solo camping trip in my Acadia SUV in a campground in the Rio Grande National Forest of Southern Colorado. I removed the 2nd row seats for extra storage space & room for the potty. I had 4 bins holding the bed up where you have the shelving so I slept with my head at the other end so my upper body weight was on the platform where the 3rd row seats are. I’ve got to build a light frame to hold the bed up so the bins will slide in & out more easily, but that’s the only thing I’m going to change in my setup. I spent 2 weeks camping out of my SUV & it worked just fine. For me, the idea of camping is being outdoors, so my suv is just for sleeping.
@Manyroadsnorules
@Manyroadsnorules 3 жыл бұрын
Nice! an Acadia allows you to get through some tougher roads due to the 4WD, right? We were quite close, I was in Durango and Pagosa Springs just a couple of weeks ago. I thought about that benefit of the SUV, the higher clearance and the 4WD or AWD. I finally decided for the minnivan because it is going to be my living quarters for a long while and a little bit more space was mote tempting than the off-road capabilities. I also thought of sleepinng with my head to the back of the vehicle (it is way easier in many ways) but I really didn't want to see the front seats from the bed. I can always open the back door and see the forest out there. :) Thank you again for your kind comments, we might actually meet some day down the road! Adriana :)

@@Manyroadsnorules Yep, I left on 7/30. I hope you got over to the Creede area… it is gorgeous. I got to see live theater in the mountains just above Creede. My mom & I camped & fished together for years from the time I was a little girl and I loved it. She’s been gone since I was 31 and I’m now 73. Camping has been calling me again for a while & I was determined to try it again. My acadia is not AWD or 4WD, it is just what I happen to have. I’ve been watching KZbin videos for about 2 years, trying to decide how I wanted to camp. Then I thought…. “What if you buy a vehicle/equipment but don’t enjoy it? So, I pulled the Acadia together to do car camping again just to see if I would still enjoy it after 40 years… and honestly, to see if I was physically up to it. I chose that are of Colorado for my 1st shot because the weather is generally gorgeous & I’m very familiar with the area. I wanted to go further north but the rain/slides caused me to back off that idea. I will do more camping this fall after it cools off here in Texas. If it ends up being what I want to do, I’ll buy a van & do a no-build build on it as well… I have no desire for a tricked out van. I’m currently giving serious consideration to a compact van, like the Ford Transit Connect, but vehicles are so hard to come buy right now, I can’t even find one to look at. Very nice to meet you and I hope to see you on the road!

@@lindahardy8713 That story about you and your mom camping is so sweet, and it is nice you get to relive it through rivers and mountains you visit again! What a great story! Have you ever consider a super tiny camper to tow? Like the TAG or Casita or Scamp? I think I will try to get a very tiny Scamp or Casita so I can have my "dining room" in it and still sleep in the security of my minivan... Roads should have meeting rooms!!! LOL
@lindahardy8713
@lindahardy8713 3 жыл бұрын
@@Manyroadsnorules Actually, I had decided on a casita… great product. But I couldn’t get past the fact that if I ever felt uncomfortable, I’d have to get out of the trailer, & do all the necessary stuff to get on the road or drive off & leave the trailer. In a van, I can just jump in the drivers seat & go. If I do a twin bed in a van, I’ll have plenty of room for an eating arrangement. But if I end up doing a compact van, I’ll get a tailgate tent for the back for more room. You’re full time so you have much more to consider than someone like me who would be an occasional camper.

@@lindahardy8713 That is true! Each of us knows exactly where the shoe is tight... in my case, sleeping in the minivan allows me to leave at any time if I don't feel safe but, on rainy days and to work, a tiny trailer equiped as a dining room can be the best solution. I am outfitting my Grand Caravan that i just purchased a month ago. I am putting in a lengthwise bed as you have done... But i am making it hinged... So i can put a narrow part of wood support against the wall during the day so i have a bench to sit on which gives a little more space during the day. Then at night i pull it out to make the full bed. I hope it is worth all the work lol. I think it will be. Still figuring out the rest. I did buy a small sink and will build a cabinet for it... Then most of storage will be in the deep storage in the back. I hope to take a trip in the fall with it. Can't wait. How long will you be travelling? Maybe we can meet up along the way. :)

And, same as crossing those huge tresholds, each experience we live through can be perceived as an amazing and unique moment to be cherished... what a gift right? Thank you so much for subscribing and being here!!! I feel honored! :)

Hi JJ, I got the chair from Menards (hardware store) I needed the chair to have a tall back to provide head support. I added the lithe pillow for lumbar support and a small folding stool to rest my feet and further protect my back. The brand is Glidesman and I paid about $60. It is really sturdy and confortable. You may want to try the chair in a store so you know for sure that it is a good fit for you. 😀

Simple efficient setup. Like your no build shelving idea for the bed. Thank you for sharing! Only concern was seeing a spray can of Febreze which is a highly toxic product that can create and increase asthma symptoms. I highly recommend avoiding all scented products. Particularly in a small “van home” environment. Your sensitivity to smells could be a symptom of a toxic body burden. Wishing you health and great adventures! 🚐

OMG! I didn't knnow that about that product, thank you for alerting me, I will pass it on! I do not like sprays or chemical products at all, I avoid them like the plague, you are right, they aggravate my symptoms significantly. I had spilled something on the carpet and there was this ugly smell, I thought of cleaning-masking it with that spray. It went away in a couple of days of just venting so I didn't need to use the spray again. But I am now getting rid of it for good, besides, if it is not being used, there is no room for it. Thank you very much for your advice, it is highly appreciated!!! Adriana :)

Hi Michelle, thank you for your comment!!! the link for the bottle is up. It will bring you to the blue one but you can find more colors there, and an option for non-insulated bottles in case you don't need your water to be cold for hours. I like cold water and I can always "clean it" after many hours in the bottle. I love this technology! Hope you love it :)

Reminds me of my build in many ways except I don't have that orange floating bag for garbage. I've been meaning to get the gutter covers for a year now, but mean while I sewed a mesh to cover the front windows and close my door on it. I still have a Coleman cooler but since I made a cover for it food stays cold longer. I bring my porta potty with me when I go alone and when someone comes with me I can made my bed into a dble from the rest of my shelves. It's amazing what we can fit in our minivans, isn't it?! ☺♥

It is absolutely true! we can fit a lot of things in them! And it sounds like you have it all figured out as well. @@Galemor1 Hi Anne, I am sorry I confused the conversation! I went to the Netherlands to visit my son who lives there but I am back in the US. In order to find boondocking sites here I use a platform named CAMPENDIUM (it is not an app) There must be something similar in Europe, I hope you find it! Otherwise you have to consider being totally stealth, you know, no more than one night in the same place, hospitals and 24 hours businesses parking lots... keep me posted, I hope you do get something out of selling that divider... it might take a little longer but do not worry too much, once we put our brains to it, somehow we make it happen. Is your bed a full or twin? I love the simplicity of your build and how you explained every detail I’ve been so nervous about this but I’m for sure this is what I want to do !!!!
@Manyroadsnorules
@Manyroadsnorules 3 жыл бұрын
This bed is neither a twin nor a full size. A twin is 39" by 75". A full size is 54" by 75". Either of them would have taken precious space that I needed for clothes and other things. Going super narrow allows for a lot more storage. You just make sure you have at least 6 inches of mattress or layers, you will be way more comfortable! Thank you for your kind comment and don't be nervous, just start with a cheap option like this one and, if you like this type of life, you will always have time to go wider or for a different thing altogether. As they say: "eyes on the prize" the goal is to be free and park anywhere when you start feeling like sleeping! Thank you, Adriana :)
