hi there! now that we're a few months into the challenge, here are a few of the things i've been doing to help get my finances in check alongside the no buy.
disclaimer i am OBVIOUSLY not a financial professional, this is just what's working for me, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I've just implemented the if I can't afford it 2x over rule too! It's been helping me so much. I feel like we're the same person in terms of spending - I was bad on Klarna & have an unhealthy shopping addiction!

I've always felt that downloadables / printables / courses aren't really passive because you've got to continually advertise them online. So it becomes a second job. Same with being a landlord / Airbnb host. Versus stocks and HYSA which really are passive.

Just want to say that i watched your No-buy 2024 intro video a few months ago and you have come such a long way! I hope you are proud of yourself. You sound way more confident and you are taking all the right steps! Keep it up!

great tips and ideas! i was in the same boat up until a few years ago and what really changed my finances was my mental health improvement. i hadn't realized i was actually depressed so i would literally just browse and online shop to feel something... most times i would get packages and not even open them 😬 so first thing i started was working on myself, started working out and set a budget for myself and slowly have improved everything. im wishing the same success for you, whether it be physical or mental health or both! you can do it. i have paid off $5k of credit card debt, started investing, and have over $30k in savings in my HYSA (started in 2020).

Wishing you the best!! These all sound like great tips. I really gotta set up an HYSA 😮. My mottos are (like you said) to never spend money you don’t have and try to live below your means, so even things i can afford….i try not to buy unless i absolutely need or seek out a cheaper alternative!

thanks for your video! I'm from Chile, but I'm taking advices from every source I can to learn about saving money. Right now I'm using the folder method to buy things, is not the best but per now it works so I can be more resposible.

Student loans are no joke. I finally got mine payed off a few years ago but I had fallen behind and it was bad. "I was an afterpay Bit**ch" 🤣. I never use it. OMG that is crazy. Maybe you should not use it all. Oh I use to spend a lot of money on books too. But now I am so busy I have no time to read. But yes hitting up the library is a great thing to do. Wow thats cool that your job has the chance to earn extra income. I have been thinking of trying to do something with passive income like a high yield savings account. I know create course and sell it always sounds too good to be true which it usually is. Great discussion here, think I am going to stick around. Keep it up! 👍🥰☺

I love this and am so glad I clicked on this video! Very sensible, sane advice and not clickbaity or crazy. You've clearly put a lot of thought into this! I really regret not opening a HYSA sooner even as someone with lots of savings. I missed out on hundreds of dollars by not doing that. But of course if the best time to do it is yesterday, the second best time is today :) it really helps savings keep up with inflation I also really love using credit card bonuses- but I know those are so touchy. I definitely treat mine like a debit card and am naturally cautious so it hasn't been an issue. When you can do that and get points throughout the year just on regular purchases, often it will add up such that my husband and I can use the points to pay for a hotel stay to go see family.
