I’m into minimalism for years and I decluttered very few clothes initially. BUT in the last 7 years I wore them down. Piece by piece things are getting repurposed (damaged longshirts can be fabrics for kids leggins!) or donated. A few items don’t fit anymore into my life with two kids and I certainly won’t wear tight jeans mini-dresses for gardening! Now I’m happy with most categories (still have a lot of shirts). I actually NEED to buy clothes now and then as old ones get damaged (pants, with kids they’re worn down quickly). You will come to this point, too! Your way is great!
@Alexas.nobuyyear8 ай бұрын
I love to hear that people are still "using things up". And you're right I hope to get to this point of actually wearing my things enough that I both enjoy them and eventually wear them out in an organic way! It might be through playing with kids over here too, haha 😁

As a sewer and crafter I am 100% saying "go for it" on the cutting the ganni dress into a top! You look great in flowy dresses, skirts, and pants. The skims dress and other tighter garments highlighted your pelvis in an odd way. Might just have been the undergarments you were wearing during the try on. But the looser garments were so flattering to your figure.
@Alexas.nobuyyear8 ай бұрын
I agree, thank you for sharing your observation! Part of it may be that I had boy shorts with a bunch of seams on, which were visible, but I do prefer the way I look and feel in the flowier fabric. That's probably why I hardly ever wear the skims dresses - the tighter skirts can at least be balanced with a looser top but the tight dresses as is are harder. The grandma-made vest is fab. Looks designer! For the black dress with the slit, since it seems to fit great otherwise, it wouldn’t be too hard to change out the straps to a wider ribbon of your liking and to onset a piece of black satin to fill the slit. You, grandma or a tailor could do it! Hearing this classical piece, I can’t help thinking it was the jumping off point for the composition of the wonderful music on the soundtrack of The Magnificent Seven (1960) by Elmer Bernstein.
@Alexas.nobuyyear8 ай бұрын
Yes thank you grandma! Unfortunately she's no longer with us but very probably she could have helped with the dress too. I think this one I might leave in its original state and pass on, since it does seem to be a popular style for some, (who may not mind being a little "sexier" at formal events), even if it's not great for my needs. I'll look into that soundtrack too! You can actually hear a lot of Holst's "The Planets" (which is where this piece, Jupiter, is from) in the soundtrack of Star Wars by John Williams as well! The artistic references are everywhere!
@emmy85268 ай бұрын
There’s also a very brief sequence I think in the overture of The Magic Flute that is a distinctive element of the Indiana Jones signature piece by John Williams. Art is a continuum!

Funny you mention it - this particular video is actually not fully monetized because of the music - while the pieces of music are "royalty free" (if they're old enough to be public domain), the recording artists are not! So if the London Symphony is playing Jupiter (I think that's the group featured here) their license is on here for copyright purposes, and they're getting the biggest cut of the ad revenue! 😄

I think the words I'd throw out are somewhat classic (but "fun classic"?), Scandi-inspired, somewhat artistic, comfortable/relaxed...but not all of my clothes represent what I feel my style to be, and I'm certainly evolving to become more streamlined in my style this year. I have also been very influenced in my past purchases, by trends or just creators on social media, so there is a bit of a hodgepodge going on as I recover from my shopping habits. Currently reading Allison Bornstein's "Wear it Well" and will hopefully gain some insight. One of my goals in paring down throughout this year is to develop a stronger sense of style, so I'll share my findings if I learn anything valuable!

The vneck top looks good on you, but looking at your items, you are a T-shirt Jean girl, but you need fancier items for your performance, so try to keep that in mind when you shop, which part of my life this item will work for me, then you start to hone in items that truly work for your life style.

As a sidenote, I’m new to your channel, but it sounds like you play in an orchestra? Do you play in any of the music that we’re listening to?

I do! And unfortunately I am not in any of the recordings available to use on this media - if my orchestra does do a recording, it will be copyrighted by the orchestra and possibly the composer if they're still living - and so I won't be able to use it. I do hope to use more of my own "solo" playing in the future but it's a lot to coordinate, so not sure when that might happen 😁
