Keep up the great work guys. I like that you experiment with various brewing ingredients and techniques. I was an extract brewer for over 20 years. If you hadn’t demonstrated BIAB, I never would have tried brewing all grain.

Another great video guys, I have been doing a lot off no chil beers over the winter. Summertime we have access to as much water we need from the nearest lake so now I can start chilling again. Really like the no chill method though. Haven’t made a dedicated video about it but it will come. Cheers an keep up the good work. Cheers DrHans

Guys, there is still hop isomerisation going on in the temp range between boiling and around 80 deg C or so. As such you need to factor in how long it takes in your chilling location for the cube to drop 20 deg C in temp and then use than time to modify you hop addition calculations. Nominally the rule of thumb is to add 20 min.

Fly Over profile... FOIPA? On the semi serious side Cascade grown in Michigan comes out a lot more like Columbus. The AA just bumps up with MI growing conditions. Nice Job. I thought that the NZ folks used the cubes because they could squeeze all the air out, it doesn't loo like your "no chill chiller" can do that. Logically not sure why one would need to since your filling it at 212f about so any air should be "sterile" and you want to oxygenate the wort at that point anyway, but curious.

S Koue I’m not too concerned about air, especially since I pitch the next day. In fact, I “burp” the container a few times while it cools by letting air in because the sides collapse as the temp drops. -James

Candi syrup she's alright haha funny, I can only imagine your Jokes after a few beers not just the one! Stupid question alert but could I use the fermenter as the chill container or does it need to be a special container heat resistant etc thanks great videos

Great video yet again. I notice you didn’t use a starter but still got the abv down very impressively. Ive rarely had that kind of success with liquid yeastt, even on smaller beers. You got any tips or suggestions on liquid yeast management? I don’t have these issues ever when I use dry yeast.

Have you ever experimented with brewing without hops? I've done a Norwegian ale flavored with only juniper (it was fantastic) and I'm interested in trying out gruits and other alternatives to hops.
@basicbrewing5 жыл бұрын
I've been trying to remember. I don't think I've brewed a beer without hops, but I've sampled them. Juniper is a very tasty addition, as is spruce. - James
@MrEvanfriend5 жыл бұрын
@@basicbrewing Never tried using spruce, but it's on the "to do" list. I want to brew a colonial ale for the Marine Corps birthday in November, and the recipe I found uses spruce and hops (and a number of other ingredients).

Looks like a very good beer, do you filter the wort going to the no-chill container or do you "no-chill" it with the trub and all?

James... I just wanted to be sure ... Is all the hop material going into the fermenter, or at least most of it? And then you just allow to naturally free fall to room temp ?? About how long (in actually hours .. which I understand may be a bit variable ) does it take to cool to pitch temps ?? Thank you Love your videos :)

I really really love these videos. You guys do a great job! Question: I started no chilling when my immersion chiller blew up on me. Gotta love high pressure Vancouver water. Is there any risk to just leaving it in the boil kettle?
