We played a private wedding gig at an amazing venue with an underground whiskey bunker and a secret wine tunnel! My mind was blown. Also we played the gig with no click which was awesome and hilarious! I had to put the beat tracker on the mix to see how close we were to the actual tempos and my mind was blown again. It was a mind blowing day!

Dude this is great. I use beat mirror and it can be humbling to say the least. Always interesting to me how we can fluctuate with band members pushing and pulling. But I think staying +/-3 bpm, I can still sleep at night 😂 as long as it grooves and the band is happy. Love the insight here Dusty 👍

I dig your channel and honestly I've not watched this while video yet, but a band should be able to function without click tracks. I'm curious, how long have clicks been a thing for recording and live gigs? 10 years? 20 years? 30....???

It’s been around a long time probably but for club level bands it started in the 2000s. I come from the drumline world so I broke my click hating early in life.

Ive experienced this as well, I think I'm rushing or dragging but I'm perfectly on time. And then other times I feel lock in but I'm speeding up. My theory is that when you feel like youre dragging you actually are beginning to but make micro adjustments that keep you in time

This is great. I use an app called “live BPM” but it doesn’t have the running tempo function. What app is that? Also, I feel the “don’t rush so let’s drag” 😂

I use the Live BPM app as a guide during most gigs which are not with a click. I find my perception of the tempo can vary depending on my levels of tiredness! The only problem with that app is it has a c.5 second delay so it's important not to react to it immediately!

Tempo is all about perception. The tempo of the previous song always affects the next also.

@@dustysaxton my bass player gave me a helpful handy hint when it comes to click. Change the way you think about it... instead of the click telling you where the beat is- you tell the click where it is... It works!

@@homerotamez4573 my first time using a click in a non-drumline situation (with a band) I thought I would hate it. But it chilled me out because it took the tempo keeping responsibility away and gave me something steady to groove with. I liked it from then on.
