I have been in your country and do you know what surprised me, that no one spoke Greek! believe me the percentage that speaks a foreign language in Greece is huge compared to what they speak in your country! and I'm telling you in a friendly way! have a good time in Greece, enjoy every single moment, and I'm telling you that from the bottom of my heart!❤ It really difficult if no one speaks your language specially in the hospitals!
@SailingHollyBlue6 ай бұрын
100% agree - we are always amazed by how so many speak Greek and by the amazing language education the children here have…it’s also so nice for the boys to be able to chat to anyone! In hospital it was just particularly frustrating because there were many complicated phrases needed to communicate - we speak a little Greek but considering how much English is spoken in lefkada we were surprised that in the hospital it was minimally spoken…however the medical services were brilliant so that’s the important thing! We love ❤️Greece and hope one day we will speak much more of your language and feel less rude as it’s embarrassing to say that after 5 years our vocabulary is still so limited 🙈🙈🙈. ❤️🦋⚓️

@@astonmatthews185 More than 50 million people in the world speak Greek and many more wish to learn it, so I wouldn't call this language semi dead at all (and I'm Italian who lives in the UK). @@SailingHollyBlue Greek is a rich and historic language, and while it can be challenging, the effort is worth it. I understand that time may be limited, but with a little discipline and consistency, progress can be made. You can start with small steps, such as learning new words every day, watching videos or listening to podcasts in Greek, or even reading simple texts. The most important thing is to integrate the language into your daily life so that it becomes part of your routine.

Absolutely agree - it’s incredible how well educated Greek children are in English and as a whole Greece is very accommodating to foreign visitors who don’t speak the language…it was more difficult on this occasion because this particular hospital was an exception to the rule and it was very stressful to try to communicate medical terminology. But for a medical facility on the whole it is exceptional.
