I think his point is being missed because of how he worded it. He definitely says "on purpose" in regards to him changing his appearance. That was for the part, no question. But when asked if that was ONLY for the role (when beer and smoking were the last things mentioned), he could be saying it wasnt just to look the part and land the role but also to embody the character and feel like shit. Or he could be saying it was stress from working on the movie and he used that to his advantage. Either way, he doesn't actual mean all of that had nothing to do with fitting the role.

I thought it was a straight documentary too until things started getting silly at 2:00. It's hard to explain humor to someone who's missed the joke, but I suggest you watch again because you definitely missed this one. My heart goes out to Javier Bardem. He is an incredible artist, lashed to the yoke of the Coen brothers' plow, being driven, whipped (both physically and emotionally) by the devil demon auteurs with nary a drop of human decency or pity. He will have to carry the heavy weight of their brutality with him for the rest of his days - or at least until he gets his Beverly Hills mansion.

Or be mistaken for Judd Nelson.
@Bootmahoy88 Жыл бұрын
Bardem gave an amazing performance. Really good acting is often very painful throughout the creative process. Who can say what was appropriate or not? I think immediately of Ellen Burstyn and William Friedkin and what he made her do, how he went about it, or how Friedkin worked with the non-actor (priest in real life) who gave an astoundingly crisp and beautiful performance throughout the film and over the broken body of his friend at the bottom of that stone staircase. The tales are legion of those creative grapples.

Javier Bardem is just a ridiculously, effortlessly natural actor. Mate of mine worked on Skyfall and told me about a funnymoment where Daniel Craig kind of lost all his confidence one day and needed geeing up, overheard Craig say something like "Oh my god how can I even compare with that he's got more screen presence just sitting there than I have trying my hardest on my best day"
@Croc-x1c Жыл бұрын
It runs in the family, his mother and grandparents were all recognized international actors, his uncle Juan Antonio Bardem was a renowned director father of another important current director and screenwriter, Miguel Bardem. Javier's brother, Carlos, was already famous for his bully roles in Hollywood 20 years ago, he is also a director, screenwriter, producer and even has several award winning books published. With that family background it is not difficult to become a good actor.

No Country was one of the last movie's I watched with my father before he really lost his cognitive skills. Even if he hadn't have liked it, it would hold a special place for me. But he really liked it, and it's in my all-time top 5. I'm really glad that Brolin posted this for us to get a glimpse behind the Coen curtain.

Best movie ever. Before I saw this in early 2009 I just listed a bunch of movies whenever someone asked what my favorites were. Then I saw this masterpiece, it had everything, the landscape and detail of Sergio Leone, the wit of an early Tarantino movie and a smooth cinematography and depth of the characters like in a Scorsese. The lack of a soundtrack also adds to the crude screentime- not a single distraction.

Oh, sure, but they don't even talk about all the people Javier murdered to "get into character". My uncle Clayton for one. He set off to get Javier's autograph and was never seen again and that's the truth. And where's the autograph now I want to know? I tracked down one of the Cohen brothers and demanded answers. He just shrugged and said, "That's show business".

My favorite thing about this movie is the reason why Bell/Tommy Lee Jones's character quits the police force. In other movies you'd usually get a scenario where a cop encounters an epic brush with death or a Dirty Harry type situation. Then they throw their badge away. In this movie, he simply goes to a crime scene, gets creeped out because he knows in his heart that Anton Chigurh is there. Then he quits. It's so subtle.
@Townesvanwaits Жыл бұрын
He quits because he doesn't understand the world he lives in anymore, not cause he was "creeped out" that sugartits was still in the motel room. He literally understood that it's "no country for old men" so he threw in the towel
