I’ve only heard of false negatives. I was always told a positive is a positive. People can have mild to no symptoms with covid to severe symptoms. It’s very strange how symptoms vary

Oh Bonnie, I am so heartbroken for you. That was so sad to watch. I hope your Dad doesn’t get too sick . You did much better than me at accepting the news. I guess there’s not much you can do about it. I haven’t had any real disasters when traveling. Which is amazing since I have traveled extensively. My luggage went to the wrong airport once in Houston and we had to drive across town late at night to get it but that’s about all.

Once we were all grown and out of college they were able to take all of us + our families on a week beach vacation. We got in on a Saturday and had to evacuate by Monday because of Hurricane Flo. It was heartbreaking, especially because my dad was so proud he could afford to take us all somewhere. We drove to Gatlinburg and made the best of it!

There’s also an incubation period so you probably wouldn’t test positive for a couple days after being in close contact with a Covid positive person. You’re more likely to test positive say half way through the trip and that’s quite vital for a cruise. E.g within a week you could potentially have a whole infected ship of passengers. I’ll say you’re outlook on the situ is admirable and positive considering the bummer of it all. Like u said it is what it is :/

My travel story - we are from Scotland and went to Florida in November in 2018. Our flight home was cancelled, and we couldn’t get another flight home because it was thanksgiving week and every flight was full 😩 but my sister was taken into hospital that day with sepsis in England, so had to get back to her. Our only way home was via Phoenix, Arizona! So we went Orlando-Phoenix-London-Glasgow then had to drive down to Manchester. It was awful while she was ill in hospital. She’s fine now!

His friend was going to drive him and the rest of the friends to los Angeles as that's where you get on the ship. Wow. Y’all handled it so well. My mom and I were travelling back from England to Canada (which we have dual citizenship for) however on our way to England we only brought our uk passport because it’s easier than waiting in line when getting off the plane. So the day we go to leave, which was about a 2 hour drive from where we were staying, we get to the ticket counter and because we didn’t have our Canadian passports we couldn’t leave the country to go back home. So we were basically “stuck”( loosely used since we were staying with family) there for a whole other week until our Canadian passports were mailed to us. Very stressful situation as we both had work and I was starting up my class used for university which I missed out on the first week of.

I know that’s such a disappointment! My brother, his wife, daughter and his in-laws traveled a few weeks back to a resort island and by the time they got home all of them (minus my niece) were symptomatic and positive. It was a miserable recovery for them, but gratefully they’re feeling better. It stinks, but you’re right, it makes sense why they still have to be so cautious.

Travel Disaster Story: My sister and I went on a cruise, but I got soooo seasick. We got off at the first stop for an excursion, and we didn’t get back on! Instead, we rented a car and drove up and down the New England Coast in the fall. One of the best trips of my life. She died a few years after that, and I will forever be grateful for those memories. I actually think the whole disaster turned out just as it should. Maybe there was a reason your dad (and you) couldn’t get on that cruise. Something to think about . . .

We went to my sisters beach house in South Carolina for New Year’s. My mother and I rode home with my sister. Everybody else rode in the car behind us. My sister had not felt well all week. After getting home she became very sick and my mom and I a week afterwards. I deal with MS also so it’s not been easy. Thank God we’re all getting better now. My sister felt guilty also and thought she had caused it. There should be no guilt this is just a bad situation for families.

Took my baby to be with her Dad who was stationed in Florida with the Army and she got RSV. We spent our week in and out of the hospital. The night we were supposed to fly back home had our flight canceled due to a hurricane. We got an extra day to cry it out as a family. My husband and I saved up for 5 years to go to Hawaii. We went we had a great time on our last day there there was an 6.4 earth quake that shut down the airport and stranded us there for 4 days. It was salary and chaotic. The condo place let us rebook but jacked up our nightly rate it’s cost us the the same amount of money the 4 days as it cost us for the previous 12 days we were there… and it proceeded to monsoon for those 4days 😂 so… we weren’t soaking up extra sun. Because of the damage from the earth quake our room was also leaking. It was still our favourite holiday and we laugh about it now.

Oh no, that really sucks, I feel so sorry for you guys.. Hope your dad is okay. When I was about 10 my dad broke his back in a bike accident during family vacation. Fortunately he fully recovered, but that was really scary. Another time we were in a little mountain village in Italy and my dad developed kidney stones, so we had to call an ambulance not knowing any Italian. Again, everything turned out alright, but why do these things always seem to happen during vacation??

You mean immunocompromised instead of chronically ill, and probably not, if they're being responsible about their own health a cruise probably isn't a good idea covid aside because sicknesses tend to run through them, but that's the risk each individual would have to consider.

We booked a trip to what would have been our boys first Disney world trip, we waited till they were old enough to remember and also had been planing it for a full year. That being said it was the spring break that COVID shut down the whole world. We got on the plane with texts saying that school was canceled till further notice and when we landed in Flordia we got the news that Disney world was closing. Talk about being bummed and scared all at the same time. We didn’t know what was going to happen and like you we tried to make the best of it and find the good and positive even if we were scared and sad. It’s part of life and remember it’s what makes us stronger as people and more connected to our Heavenly Father if we put our eyes on him during hard times.

Covid stole our Christmas, my husband and I were terribly sick for days and days. Positive was positive for us. Our 5 grandsons depend on us for Christmas, they couldn't understand why Christmas had to be cancelled. We cried , they cried, and 14 days later , WE HAD CHRISTMAS. Yeah, I plan on wearing an N95 for 2 weeks ahead of time and testing prior to the official test ,so I am certain it will come back negative. I don't have the time or the money to leave it up to chance. Much better to "waste" a mask&extra test, than the cost and inconvenience of giving up vacation time/flights/car rental/hotel/cruise/etc.

So one time all the girls in my family went to NYC. (4-70+ year olds, 4- 40 + year olds and 4-18-24 year olds) We live by Chicago. So we all flew into NYC wearing matching shirts. (1st mistake). Someone so kindly asked us what we compete in 😂. We said nothing it’s a family trip and moved on. We then got all of our luggage and went to get into our van to take us to our house we rented. (2nd mistake). We got in the van and it was one seat short. We LITERALLY SHOVED my cousin down in between 2 bucket seats so it looked like she was sitting in a chair. They driver asked if we were going to some island and we just laughed and said sure! The guy was about to pull out when my aunt asked if he was serious and he said yes! We got into the wrong van 🤦🏼‍♀️ we had to pull my cousin who was stuck in between the seats out, unload and find our actual van. When we finally got to the house it had huge windows in the back living room. (Where all of the younger girls were sleeping). We tried to close the blinds but it wouldn’t close. So my cousin (the one who we shoved in between the seats) pulled hard on the cord and the blinds literally came flying off the wall. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen! There are many more stories of different trips, but that one I will never forget! Hope your dad is feeling better!

omg Bonnie let me tell you!! So you guys are the ones who inspired are whole family to go to St Anthonys sand dunes in Idaho and we all went at the beginning of may. Family from California to Hawaii came! It was so much fun and so beautiful and we had a great time riding the dunes! But on our way back we stopped to spend the night in rock springs Wyoming the next day as were pulling onto the highway our truck starts BLINKING engine check light and something is completely off not to mention it was MOTHERS DAY :( and the next day being MY BIRTHDAY :( we basically got stranded in the middle of nowhere Wyoming with our three year old for two extra days. It was awful and we paid thousands of more dollars then we intended this was supposed to be a quick easy trip.. nope so wrong.. truck is still broken to this day, failing oil lifter ouch and so expensive and over our warranty by 3000 miles of course! A complete disaster, thankful we were able to make it home. SO sad you werent able to make the cruise i can imagine the disappointment i understand how much goes into planning such a huge trip. Hoping you got a refund or FCC to use soon. xoxo

Sending your family blessings the reason they won’t let you if you test negative is because you technically could have it, it takes a few days for an exposure to take hold in your body and meaning it would take a few days to show on a test.

when I was in 12 grade my family wanted to go to Bahamas for spring break. On the day of the traveling I wasn't feeling good, after flying for what seemed like the longest flight I ever had. Once we landed, we had to take a charter plane. it got worse from there, I started vomiting once we got to the hotel. The next day, a wicked wind storm arrived. Worst spring break ever!

Such a bummer you guys couldn’t go. One time I flew to Philly to see a friend. Our flight was late and I had a connecting flight. I had 10 minutes to 1) pee 2) call COLLECT as cell phones were not the norm yet 3) run all the way TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE AIRPORT to get my connecting flight. I barely made it. They closed the door before I sat down in my seat. I got to Philly close to midnight and my suitcase decided to hang out in Michigan where we landed for the connecting flight. It was the east coast and I am from the west coast so it was so humid 🤦🏻‍♀️ oh and the cherry on top, I started my period and I didn’t have any clothes. 🙌🏻🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

One time when we were going to Alabama our car broke down and we were on the side of the road for an hour in the heat! And when the truck came to get us he said this to us “well if you told me you had kids I would have been here faster” and we were literally on the edge of tears 🥲 we also live in Missouri so that was a long drive with a random stranger!

Travel disaster: When I was 4 my family and I were vacationing in Hawaii and Hurricane Iniki (Cat 5) hit. After the hurricane passed we were evacuated to a different island and our hotel caught fire!

Oh Bonnie! I spent last week in a hotel room because of Covid, however it was a business trip not a cruise. I'm so so sorry!
