I've always defended David Beckham, he's one of the finest footballers ever for England. Utterly unique and irreplaceable. Best in the world at long range passing, freekicks, vision, long range shots, corners, great at pens. Superb crosser. The things he did well he was top 3 in the world. Very very special player. So good that he could have played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, Paris PSG... O yeh, he did. Was so good that England needed him in 2002 and 2006 world cups. He could have even played in the 2010 world cup. A player who didn't rely on speed, but relied on skills that would make him good even if he played today.

It really annoys me when uninformed, opinionated people (usually younger people who think the current generation of players are the be-all-and-end-all) write off Beckham as being a 'one trick pony' or 'over-rated'. They literally don't know what they're talking about. The man was phenomenal, and it's highlights videos like this that truly show just how bloody special he was! He could strike a ball like like no-one else I've ever seen, before or since. The accuracy of his long balls were astonishing, and his free kick technique was truly iconic! There is a reason why he is THAT famous. And it's not because he married a Spice Girl. It's because he was one of the best midfielders of all time. There's not many players who can say they played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, PSG and AC Milan. His level of fame is comparable to Micheal Jordan because of his ability on the pitch. Even if you know absolutely NOTHING about football, you know who David Beckham is!

Nobody is talking about the guy’s engine…he ran and ran for 90 minutes. I recall my wife who had no interest in football (but Bex wasn’t judged by most women like that, was he?!) blurting out, “How did he get there” when he’d cleared off the line at one end and seconds later appeared in shot to net at the other. The replay showed what a seemingly surreal achievement it was….maybe 90 metres in a few seconds. And a jolly nice chap too!
