Property Information - Freehold property. Current Council Tax Band status unknown. There are no mains services available. When the property was last inhabited, the following arrangements were in place: electricity generation via a windmill and generator; Calor Gas cylinders for cooking; multi-fuel stove for heat; septic tank drainage (now disconnected) and water was transported via a trailer. Cost another 300k to sort out on top I think Thomas.

These places are amazing. When I first started on The Railway as a Trainee Signalman, there was still Jobs advertised on the Internal vacancy list for crossing keepers and signalmen that still had Living accommodation that came with The Job. They were solidly built houses and cottages full of character.

This house was sold a little while back. The price was reduced to £250k when I last looked. It sold not long after. It has no mains services, but than can be sorted these days with solar and battery storage, or perhaps a small wind turbine ( no shortage of wind here). If a water supply could be sorted, it has great potential as a cafe/tea stop for the many walkers going past each year. The guy who lived here seemingly used to have fresh water delivered on a regular basis, and used a wind turbine and a generator for electricity. The house you see there now is No 3 Blea Moor Cottages, as there were originally a further two cottages where the last occupant stored all his junk.

If you could obtain a permit/licence to extract water from the nearby river/stream, then it would all be do-able for probably around £75 to £100k at a pinch. Solar and battery storage system £25k, wind turbine £25k, the water extraction and filtering I'm not sure about, but probably at least £25 to £50k. Plus you will need to pay the Local Authority Environmental Health mob to come and test the water on an annual basis. I think they charge around £400 per year for that. You might also want to get a few loads of decent topsoil delivered, to be able to grow your own veg etc...... No popping to the shops living here. Plus on top of all this, you'd be looking at probably £30k upwards to renovate the house to a decent standard...... Many wouldn't entertain the thought of living here, but there are those who would of course.....

You'd use a wind turbine. Up on the Orkney Isles in Scotland, there are around 300 electric cars in use, with many of the owners using wind turbines to provide electricity. The Orkney Isles generates more electricity than it needs, using wind, solar and wave turbines, and exports the excess to the Scottish grid.....
