As the Lead Level Designer on XDefiant for the past 2.5 years (I was also a Senior Level Designer on the project from the beginning), I want to thank BlameTruth and the community for all the support/love you have shown the game but more importantly the maps team. Our group was spread out across the world (Osaka Japan, Saguenay Canada, Annecy France, and of course the SFStudio), but we all came together as a cohesive unit to create, in my opinion, some very fun and diverse maps. I wrote the main menu theme. It’s so heartwarming to see people’s response to the music. Was super bummed when the game got axed a couple weeks ago. Also wanted to highlight the amazing soloists who contributed to the song. Shaina Evoniuk on Violin/Viola, Rachael Gillespie on Vocals, Marianne Croft on Cello, and the Blake Robinson Synthetic Orchestra on the orchestral/choral samples. That’s on top of our audio director, Nick Bonardi, who wrote the original S1 theme that I based this off of (and obviously Jesper Kyd from Ezio’s Theme). Thanks for highlighting the music!

Tin foil hat time: I believe this is all a compromise between Mark Rubin and his team with Ubisoft. Hear me out - Ubisoft shuts down financial support to save money from 2024 Q4 to 2025 Q2. During this time, Mark will use the leverage of X Defiant’s player increasing player count and positive sentiment vs the overwhelming disdain towards the predatory Call of Duty / Activision. Say around March, Mark’s get in a room with Ubisoft and says “I told you so. Now let’s get back to making a GREAT game for the public, AND make you all some money.” Win win. Fingers crossed!!

What I’m speaking to is the course correction, especially in a game with much more content to appeal to players now.

@ they don’t spend money now, they spend in at the start of Q2 when Ubisoft realizes they missed out on huge cash flow potential as more and more players start to play the game, then invest in Rubin’s team to make things for players who are enjoying the game. Apex is declining and even large names who only ever had good things to say about CoD are now waking up. It’s reality check season for a lot of gaming companies.

The game launched barebones, was plagued by bad netcode, cheaters, etc. I agree there is a hole in the FPS market. But that hole needs filled with a good game, not XD. This content drop is a cool thing for them to do. But, they wouldnt be releasing what they have if they werent getting shut down. Think about that. They could have trickled it out over time to retain players. People begged them for content, and now we know for sure they had some to give. Or even better....they supposedly have a fix for the net code, but choose to hold on to it to release with a new season? And this is after Mark Rubin himself acknowledging how big an issue it was? I’m going to be honest, the only reason I haven’t played Xdefiant is because I moved to college and couldn’t bring my console. I’m glad to play it at least a little bit more before it shuts down, all though hopefully not for good. Activision didnt need to try to pull any strings. XD had a barebones launch plagued by some very serious issues that went unresolved for far too long. They killed themselves.

Don't know how to take Ubisoft...I think they are just incompetent honestly...I mean seriously if they would have just dropped xdefiant 1 month or 2 earlier we would be having a different conversation...cod was dead and they waited until the release of bo6 which let's be real cod games always feel good in the betas and zombies saved bo6...then ubisoft decides to abandoned xdefiant but not until bo6 gets caught red handed fucking everybody...it's almost like Activision caught on and bribed ubisoft into shutting this game down...I have nothing to back that theory up but it's pretty weird how this has all played out...

The movement of xdefiant and the gunplay is just so weird to me, i have tried to enjoy it, i gave it a good try, then another shot, then another shot and so on, but it is just annoyingly very very bad. I was playing around in the settings and the firing range for at least 3 hours. I was waiting for this game so bad before it launched, i also told all my friends about it to download it, and it has no sbmm or any sneaky evil game manipulating algorithms etc. But the game is just very very bad and I'm sad about it.
