The chorus of this song is another one that came from a moment serving with the team at Rock Church. We were in the song No Longer Slaves which has the line, “I’m no longer a slave to fear. I am a child of God.” From the truth that being loved as a child of God means being set free from fear, came the declaration of a promise of God we find in Scripture - fear simply cannot exist where the love of God resides.
I went back to the verse in 1 John 4:18 where John writes of that very concept, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” The Lord was speaking that over me again reminding me that in His love, there is no room for fear, because His love is the greatest love I could ever know - even if I cannot fully comprehend it.
So my prayer with this song has been that we would be perfected in love and learn to walk in freedom from fear. We have access to the love of God that conquers all fear and death because He laid down His life for us - “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
