Gen. Shoaib's accusations could be incorrect but Dr. Hoodbhoy does have a problem, and that has to do with a perception that he airs Pakistan's dirty laundry which is then used by the enemies of Pakistan to hurt its national interests. Since Hoodbhoy's audience consists of foreigners and Westernized/liberal Pakistanis (who live in Pakistan), who are not in the mainstream, his criticisms of Pakistan's various institutions, culture, and ideology goes against the grain of what ordinary Pakistanis expect from him. At times, he appears too angry, wanting to nuke the entire system (no pun intended), and at other times appealing for help from like-minded liberals. In the end, it doesn't help his cause. What the Dr. Sahab needs to understand is that to bring about change, you first have to become a loyalist and an insider. You have to praise what is good and come up with solutions for what is bad. If you are negative all the time, people get exasperated and start questioning your motives. I think this is something that Dr. Hoodbhoy needs to work on. Finally, Gen. Shoaib is no fool. His defense analyses are generally very good. I am sure he is rattling the cage to bring out the worst from Dr. Hoodbhoy, and he might have partly succeeded.

@@aalemfaazel4198 What you call "dirty laundry" comprises "hard facts" known to the entire world. And by the way, the citizens of Pakistan through their elected representatives determine Pakistan's national interests and not government servants based at GHQ & ISI. Lies, lies and lies are what people like you want to propagate in the name of "national interest". When you found your entire narrative on lies you stumble and fall down and this is what happened to Pakistan over the years .Altaf Hussain Qureshi was writing "Mashraqi Pakistan sey mohabat ka zam zam beh raha hai" when East Pakistan was burning. No lies please! Dr. Hoodbhoy is a true loyalist and everybody you speaks the truth is a loyalist and please do not brand others as traitors who do not agree with your narrative. @@aalemfaazel4198 Thanks for your comment, but why do you call yourself "Aalem Fazel" (Scholarly Person)? Anyhow, I hope you would read my submissions with an open mind. You have written that Gen. Shoaib's accusations could be incorrect. Do you still have doubts about the fact that his accusations did not have a single grain of truth in them? I wish he had done his homework before producing his video. According to you, Prof. Hoodbhoy “airs Pakistan's dirty laundry which is then used by the enemies of Pakistan to hurt its national interests.” What do you mean by Pakistan’s dirty laundry? What do you say about Noam Chomsky and Arundhati Roy? Are they both guilty of the same crime? Why do Pakistani patriots admire them? In 2006, President Hugo Chavez, an “enemy” of the US waved Chomsky’s book during his speech at the UN to denounce the United States. Should the US have put him to the sword for having provided ammunition to the enemies of the US? I am asking you these questions because we live in a global village and Pakistan is not located on some distant planet from the world. You have declared that “his criticisms of Pakistan's various institutions, culture, and ideology goes against the grain of what ordinary Pakistanis expect from him.” So, he should say only those things that “ordinary Pakistanis” approve of. What do ordinary Pakistanis expect from shining patriots such as Zaid Hamid and Orya Maqbool Jan? What do ordinary Americans and Indians expect from Noam Chomsky and Arundhati Roy respectively? You have written that Prof. Hoodbhoy “needs to understand is that to bring about change, you first have to become a loyalist and an insider.” So, he is not a loyalist. Is he a traitor? The list of those who have been declared traitors in Pakistan is very long. It includes Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, a leader of the Pakistan movement, Sher-i-Bengal Fazlul Haq, who presented the Lahore resolution, General Ayub Khan, Pervez Musharraf, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Mushahid Hussain Syed, and Hamid Mir. Even the founder of Pakistan was not spared. Chaudhry Rahmat Ali called him the Quisling-i-Azam. Coming back to your point, would you please name a few Pakistani individuals who brought about change by becoming loyalists and insiders in the last 73 years?

Even with a child you cannot take that approach. If you are scolding the child all the time, he or she will develop a strong resentment against you and would stubbornly refuse to listen. And at some time, the child will hit you back. But if you praise the child when he or she does good, the child will take you more seriously when you are unhappy. It is this simple psychology which Dr. Hoodbhoy doesn't seem to understand. Is Pakistan truly all that bad? I don't think so.

@Andrew Higgins There is no such thing as moderate Islam. Islam is Islam. As for the question of progress, Islam does not prevents people to gain knowledge and wisdom. What is preventing people to get along with modern education is not Islam its just ignorance. Also you have got a point, there is nothing stopping conservative societies from progress. In fact the Liberal societies of West are those which are losing their hand. These societies have their social structures and norms crumbled and they are suffering from their own freedom. Their demographics are literally changing. Conservatives in those countries call immigration invasion. The Sun of Europe and America is dying. Pakistani should follow what it has as its foundation. Pakistanis should not follow principles of a dead civilization. They must and they can only progress in their own way.

@@hasaanzahid_ He is trying to separate science and religion - which needs to be done. Sadly a large percentage of the population, even the literate ones with a college/ university education, believe that all science is explained in the holy book. That is bad and will not lead anywhere good. Also bear in mind that this mindset ONLY exists in Pakistan. Pakistanis will use computers, iPhones, internet and other technologies - equipment designed and built on solid scientific principles; yet they will in the same breath say "Quran explains science". It does not. Its just a myth propagated by jahil molvis and a case of the blind leading the blind. The non-muslim world has progressed in leaps and bounds, reached the moon and beyond, while the muslim world is stagnant and living on borrowed ideas and technologies. Compare the scientific research done by all the muslim countries vs that done by Israel. The answer is clear to see. We are not in 4th gear, we are in the reverse gear.

Dr Hoodbhai, (deliberately spelt as it would be pronounced here in the subcontinent) I have my highest respects for you and have always watched your interviews and lectures available on KZbin. I have always found you rational, absolutely unbiased, been equally to wrongdoings on both sides. As a student of science (I am just an Aeronautical Engineer), always appreciated your videos on science specifically. Hence, no qualms that if given the opportunity, you are a Guru that I can blessed with. As to the other gentleman in this video, I have seen his views on many subjects dealing with internal politics of Pakistan and also on relations with India. I have seen and heard many retired Officers of Pak Forces, and they have been gentlemanly enough in their conversations. A few individuals have stood out for their interesting arguments, all entertaining. This gentleman falls in that category. It's a shame Dr Saab, that you have to waste your time in discussing this individual's tall claims. He is not worth it, but worth it considering the fact that he is an influencer of public opinion. A nation that cannot value the greatness of Dr Saab is a nation that is doomed. I strongly believe that if Pak can have leaders like him, would be the best of blessings for the future of the nation and of this subcontinent. At the end of the day, we are nations built from one. My regards to Dr Saab, I am genuinely concerned for your safety.
