Competent instructors teaching what I call genuine street fighting Sambo and Judo are difficult to find in this day and age of watered down sport Judo and Sambo . So much essential teachings of Judo have been lost after many techniques are no longer allowed in a tournament setting . It's great to see instructors keeping the old ways alive . Respect sent and thanks for this video .

k9m42 No gi judo it’s called wrestling. Everyone of my kids that I coach knows these. Mixing it with striking is apretty devastating combo. To defend myself I have used punch kick combos to close the distance whether I hit the target or not is a relevant, and as soon as I can grab my opponent it’s a standing headlock or hip toss. It’s amazing what you can do when you’ve mastered a couple styles that complement each other. I wrestled up through college then went into karate and became a sensei. I have coached both wrestling and karate. But to work really well together.

this video shows a good portion of the reason I consider Side Control to be one of the best positions on the ground. I prefer it to Mount by a good deal. I even like it better then having their Back
@WeBreakItAllDownRightHere4 жыл бұрын
Without striking, I agree that side control is superior. If you want to deal damage on the ground you really need to make some space, usually by increasing your height relative to his. Mount and KOB maximize this concept

Thank you very much for this invaluable content. As a current officer of the law in the Uk, I have been In way too many grapples which usually end up in me managing to get the person on the floor by pure luck, through some truly clumsy leg sweeps, or what usually happens is I’m dealing with a man mountain who just over powers me. Very recently I’ve noticed that I have begun to initiate the headlock in my favour, but not having any options to take these beasts to the floor, until now. Of course I am more than aware that should this be done in concrete a serious level of injury will occur, and so this will be saved in my carpet based grappling struggles when I’m waiting for many minutes for back up to arrive. Thanks again

If I use tai-otoshi with no gi i'd put my arm under my opponent's shoulder so basically i'm wrapping his whole shoulder into my body and pull their other arm with my other arm. I think it also counts as a sei-otoshi if you drop your knee. Other than tai-otoshi or sei-otoshi i'd stick to using foot sweeps like osoto gari, kosoto gari, o-uchi gari and ko-uchi gari as hip and shoulder throws take too long and expose your back

I love the takedowns! However- as a matter of practical self defense is it tactically sound to voluntarily go to the ground in the street?? It’s not the octagon or a competition. People have friends, weapons, other variables. I understand if one gets taken to the ground but then it seems to make more sense to get back up ASAP. 😎
@tritacacademy5 жыл бұрын
Not all throws need to or should end up with you on the ground; and hitting people with the earth is the easiest ways to end a fight. Finally, unless you are in a true multiple attacker situation, grappling / Jiu-Jitsu is without a doubt the most effective way to control, subdue, and arrest (or break) your opponent
@jasonrudolph4915 жыл бұрын
Hey I believe ground fighting Is a great skill set to have! 👍 However- Navy SEALs while trained to fight in water would advise and prefer (safe assumption) to fight on dry land hand fo hand. - same with standing vs on the ground. Escape, evasion, and using Ur environment are easier standing as well. What can happen is U often won’t necessarily know whether it’s a multiple attacker situation initially. Friends could show up late go through their car, get a gun , while the combatants are on the ground. Bystanders could get involved. The attacker( if on the ground with them could pull a knife. And the defender not even know until serious wounds are inflicted. Typically not an option to pat someone down before “deciding “ to go to the ground- - obviously opposed to being “taken “ to the ground. Just based On stuff stuff I’ve witnessed (thankfully not experienced. 😅
@tritacacademy5 жыл бұрын
@@jasonrudolph491 Thanks for your insight. Here is our philosophy on this. The ground is a consequence, but I better know what to do what I get there. Ignoring it is just idiotic. This is experience. ... and in regards to Seals. I run a large martial arts gym in CT, and have been coaching martial arts professionally for over 10 years, training flow close to 30. We have a many, MANY active military, LEO, private security (former military) who train here daily. I have 2 guys who have been through BUDS and one is preparing to go through BUDS again right now. He couldn't finish first time due to injury. But, most of these experts hand to hand combat skills are a step above your average McDojo Krav Maga school. They do the basics very well, but they are by no means experts in hand to hand combat. Why? SOOOO much has to fail before it really goes to hand to hand combat. Their main concern is not necessarily 'how to fight', it's how to get back to their weapons systems OR survive the first few seconds of an attack until support arrives. Many questions involve weapons based attacks (especially knife or related), how to initiate 'hands on', how to defend / use your 'work space', and how to get to weapons systems when you are caught unaware, and FINALLY the biggest question every LEO, Military, SWAT, Security, etc is 'How to fight on the ground.' Experience dictates response. You can watch all the cool KZbin videos on violence that you want, listen to all the experts, repeat what they say, etc. But that is NOT studying or UNDERSTANDING combat. That is combat ENTERTAINMENT. This is video, my comments, my channel are primarily used for Combat Entertainment. If you want to really understand combat, besides going out of the street and repeatedly getting the shit kicked out of you until you understand 'combat' - the only other option is find a good MMA school and then do your weapons training with a good Kali school. I truly do appreciate your insight, got me to write a lot :)

4:00 how is that throw called?
@Tinky1rs4 жыл бұрын
It's a harai goshi (hip throw with leg) where he goes to the ground. I'd call it a maki (rolling) harai goshi, but you won't find videos with that name. Normally you wouldn't want to roll over the guy. Looking at just the throw, it's a variation of the harai goshi.

How did he get the tap from the setup at 04:10? It's not immediately apparent how that position would apply much pressure, it looks like the guy on bottom is doing a jackknife crunch which anyone with a less than morbidly obese abdomen could pull off. Can anyone explain?
@tritacacademy6 жыл бұрын
That position applies tremendous pressure on diaphragm not allowing the guy on the bottom to inhale. You're driving your ribs into their body, pulling up on their head, and pulling their legs to completely crunch them up. I'm only 150lbs (not a guy in the videos) and can pull this off against people much larger than me. Bas Rutten also won an old Pancrase fight with that move. They credited it as a Bas Rutten Neck Crank, but it's all diaphragm.
