I love the way you described the problem in the opening text, that is exactly how I feel. We had a similar problem last year, we have these lovely corner spots on the columns on our porch that are perfect little stands for birds to build nests out of reach and with enough space. Problem is everytime we walk out of the house we get dive bombed cause they're trying to protect their precious cargo. I felt the same way though, we can live together in harmony and I don't want to hurt them but we need a compromise. Thanks for the tip, I will definitely try this!

Same here. I love birds nesting in and around the yard. I just don't want them on the front porch where they aim their butts outside the nest and the droppings fall down right where I walk!

Depends on the bird. Robins are extremely clean. The parents carry away or eat bodily waste. We have a pair that nest on our porch every year. It is very minimal cleanup when they are done. Just remove the nest and brush off the shelf they nest on. No poop anywhere. We get a lot more poop under and around the bird feeder.

I understand folks who don't want birds building nests on their homes, but unless it's an invasive species like starlings I consider it a blessing when birds like robins (who are very clean BTW, the parents carry away bodily waste), nest on our porch. It is a great joy to watch the little babies grow, and then to see the parents teach them to fly and hunt for worms under the sprinkler! When the little ones fledge it is a simple job to remove the nest, with no harm done and only minimal cleanup.

I had my house painted & now birds are flocking to perch on the tops of my windows & door!! It's like a 100 of them!!! They have bird crap all over my house now. They sit around my yard like it's the new neighborhood hangout.
@alwaystinkering95794 жыл бұрын
Well thanks for your comment but, sorry for your annoying bird problem. You must have made quite an improvement at least from a bird eye view. Seriously if you just watch for a while and determine what their flight path is all you have to do is get some line in their path. They will avoid it and after a couple days will move on. Do something temporary like tying to a stick or something. Try it, it works.
@wenchang53803 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. I'm going to try your way. It's annoying they poop around the house and the porch and poke my window screens too. Even now in winter, they still poop around the house. I guess they found food in the yard around the house.
@alwaystinkering95793 жыл бұрын
Yes, try this, it is effective. Observe their flight path from a distance and simply tie some line in a manner that interferes with that flight path. So simple but it works.

I am soo disappointed in my owl, too. Perhaps they could keep each other company, since they’re obviously both without a job.

Ha, that might work. Mine is sort of retired now sitting on top of the garage door opener. Thanks for your comment.

If somebody could invent one that moves randomly, it would be much more effective. If an object stays perfectly still, the birds get used to it and learn to ignore it.

Still have 3-4 feet of snow and ice on my deck and in my yard here in Chicago area but warmer temps above freezing finally so the birds are already getting noisy and frisky around my yard. Have issues with our favorite robins nesting under pergola above our deck as well as on top of porch and deck light fixtures so just went out and tied a bunch of my 12-lb test line clear fishing line in and around those areas. My wife hates when I rip their nests down so I’m hoping this prevents them from nesting in the first place. Love the idea of clear fishing line because I’m hoping my wife doesn’t even see that I’m trying to deter them hahahahaha! Fingers crossed! Thx for the idea!! I will repost with the results over the next several weeks as birds get pregnant here. ❤️

They make holographic tape, that works great, better than anything I've tried. Not a sticky tape but reflects light into the eyes of anything that gets near it. I shoot it up into my tree that is above my cars. Using a bow and tape a string which I tie to the onto a small diameter PVC tubing and it drops down to allow you to tie it off. Of course tie the other end to the tape. Can go as high as your "arrow," can fly.

I tied a yellow no frills plastic bag over my deck light . It solved my problem. Just have to remove later when the deck is cleared.

I'm late to the bird party. I'm glad I saw your video first which kept me from buying any of the many fake owls. My birds build nests in the same places, front porch light and two gutter down spouts. Normally I wouldn't care but they hang out on the wire that crosses over my truck. Bird poop all over the hood and windshield. I get two families per nest, the robins build the nest and when they're done, sparrows use it right after. I've removed probably 30+ nests over the years. If there's eggs, I leave them alone...it's amazing how fast they can build a nest. I'm looking for a more permanent solution like spikes?

i having same issue like you bud they just recently started and i believe yesterday and i found out when i got home they were back i removed the plants off the porch which they are fake thy were trying to go in there i got black pepper in it that worked until i moved them this was a week ago now they are on the light as yours which i got it off today and right now i have aluminum foil on top the light with black pepper sprinkled on around it. So far nothing but i did had a cat on my porch and got me thinking probably how i got them back because i took the cat out and now i got chimes out metal so hopefully its works iam gnna try your idea next
@alwaystinkering95792 жыл бұрын
Yes, give it a try if your attempt is unsuccessful. The fishing line tied across their flight path is a winning technique. They will avoid it and move on. Also, its a no harm to the critters solution.

I always give birds priority around my house. If they nest too close to the front door, people going in and out always scares them away. Otherwise, I let the nest be. In a month it will be abandoned anyway. Most birds carry their young's poop away from the nest to avoid predators smelling it, so the nest area is usually clean.

If they have a nest now with babies in it , do you just wait or do this trick and mother will remove the babies ?
@alwaystinkering95792 жыл бұрын
Chances are the babies would not survive if you chased the adults away. They would not return if you put the lines up. I have not dealt with that circumstance but I have been attacked by a bird that thought that I was trying to disturb the nest. Small birds of course don't pose any real threat but it certainly startled the heck out of me.

I have a small toilet room right at the front door in the house. With an exhaust fan. Never use that fan. And this spring, I noticed birds flying into that fan opening. Switched it on - and heard the straggling sound of the motor on its last breath.. So those bastards had already built the nest inside my fan. Damn!

I haven't read my entire home owners insurance policy, but I bet there's a clause in there that "Clearly" states, if there is a fire caused by dry twigs, grass, or anything flammable, left sitting on top of any electrical device, of any kind, that ultimately causes damage to the dwelling, your claim will be rejected. Maintenance of the structure, and utilities is the sole responsibility of the policy holder. 😞 SMH I too have knocked down many nests, none with eggs, but I own 4 acres, 3 of it that is native mature wooded. They find other suitable places. We have dozens of Robins around here by early to mid summer.😊😊😊

Why the fuck would I let nasty ass birds with possible diseases come breed right above my door with my pets running around the yard there’s plenty of room in the mountains right by my house
@alwaystinkering95793 жыл бұрын
First , thank for your comment, all are good for discussion and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. When I first read your comment I was watching about 5 small birds scratching through the stale bread I had thrown out in the yard and thought "whatever". But then I realized that I had three bird feeders and 4 nesting bird houses in that same area with trees and open space that I encourage birds to use. I like birds but there is a limit to our relationship. Sorry but, I'm not sorry for claiming that little front door space as a "bird free zone". With everything else they can enjoy here, I think I am at the very least, Bird Harm Neutral.
