Bill Burr is so successful because he finds so many references that everyone can relate to. He hits the nail right on the head. His observations are so right on the mark. He has his male female relationship issues and black and white relationship issue problems into sharp focus in his signature Bill Barr way. And he revels at the awkwardness of his fans and laughs at the uneasiness of talking about sensitive issues. The funny thing to me is that I kind of bought into all the negative press as i started broadening my horizons. What I found in my experiences of moving across the river from Detroit was that if you just be yourself people of any stripe will be more likely to accept me. Phoniness doesn’t fly with most people.

In the 70s, my family took my black best friend with us to our church for a Halloween event. This was a Southern Baptist church in Florida. When we were bobbing for apples, there were some kids, including the pastor's son and nephews, that refused to put their head in the water after my friend did. Like they thought they would come back out looking like Al Jolson in blackface! I was ashamed and embarrassed beyond belief! We played football later and he ran all over them! I loved it! LOL!

Exactly! as of recent in the US I have come across people who are intentionally hateful and ignorant about it and use their skin color as a reason to why they can't be racist. It is sad we have gotten to the point where people are that blatant about the hate they have about other people. We need more people who are willing to spread love instead of hate
@Iggystar71
@Iggystar71 Жыл бұрын
@James Furey You missed my point though. Racial hatred is a problem for all races. However, the effects differ. The ramification of me being hated is different because I’m actually a minority. When I drive across country the spaces I feel safe in differ from other races. I won’t get into the politics, because I believe that every race was created equally, however the injustices, especially in the US, have not been equal. Really it’s about power and numbers. You say there’s no white or black race but that’s not the perception of people, in general.

Thank you for saying all of this. It has been over 50 years of me getting the crap beat out of me by people because I suggest "go talk to them and find out." I have found talking and LISTENING to others is a great way to learn about me and myself. Especially someone that makes me uncomfortable. Those conversations are the greatest learning moments for me. Seriously, get over it, what ever it is, and go be what we are humans, community animals. We are better when we work and learn as a whole. NOT separate.

@@smelltheglove2038 You are absolutely correct. But that "hate narrative" spreads into the general population. Try what I am talking about. Next time you hear someone saying something like "I do not know what is wrong with THAT _____" // suggest the person who made the comment to go talk to the ____ and find out what is wrong. They will turn on you and they will see you as the problem. About 8 out of 10 times is ratio I have experienced. I would LOVE to be proven wrong on this. We are not an intelligent species. Arrogant, narcissistic, self-center...yes. But intelligent? Nope. Social media will continue to push us in the self-center, narcissistic, arrogant path.

@@NRB-mb7jc I live in Philly, I’ve been physically assaulted one too many times to even attempt that. Held up at gun point three times in a year, my 11 year old son and I were accosted because we were laughing while walking to the subway. Luckily a cop stopped that attack. My buddy was jump and smashed in the head with a sock full of rocks or something and they smashed his eye socket now he’s blind in that eye. At least they got the 5 bucks. The problem is that you just can’t talk to some people without them getting extremely violent when you question their worldview. They’ve been told their whole lives by teachers, politicians, “Reverends” etc, that they’re hated, when it’s just not true. The irony is that because they keep acting out in violent ways, they’re actually making it true. Really sad.

My childhood was split between two places, an elementary and middle school in the middle of a Ukrainian/Mexican ghetto, and a high school in the whitest little backwater town in my state-so white, in fact, that there was only _one black kid in my school._ He was commonly known by people as The High School Black Kid. His younger brother was The Middle School Black Kid. To those of us who interacted with him, his name was Steve, and his brother's name was Kyle. In Elementary, I had to deal with a short African American kid named Aaron. He, for reasons I still don't fully understand, seemed to hate me on sight, and gathered up a posse of 5th graders to push my crybaby self around when I was in 6th grade. Thanks to Zero Tolerance, it got so bad that I was almost expelled, until I took some convoluted steps to get Aaron to admit (gloat) about it in front of the principal (who was hiding around the corner in the Special Needs section). I used to hate Aaron. Not because he was black, or short, but because he was a bully who used his height, relative cuteness, and ability to cry on demand to get me in trouble after I throw a single punch to try and escape a 5v1 beatdown. Steve was a cool dude who cracked some hella fine jokes. I never interacted with Kyle, since he was almost six years younger than me, but my cousins say he was cool, too. Race isn't an issue. Gender isn't an issue. Monetary means isn't an issue. The only issues are and always have been prejudice, stubborn stupidity, and willful ignorance, with a heaping side dish of classlessness. It's like that one speech in Team America: World Police. Everyone's always so quick to be a D, P, or A. Don't be any of them. Just live and let live, and the world would be a better place.

I am of European descent and had the misfortune to have seen racism very early on. My first friend, Mike, was not of European descent and we got along great until one day he was disallowed to play with me cause his parents thought he needed to play with people more like him. Whether the reason was true or an excuse from my parents(I doubt it), it had a major impact on my life. Before I even started elementary school I started reading about Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Ghandi, Lincoln, and Caesar Chavez, those who fought against slavery, segregation and racism. Children are not born racist, they are taught it and/or learn it from friends and family. Now more than ever we know of the many great people of every race, religion, and class throughout history and thus should know better than to judge a book by its cover. It is the words and mostly the actions one takes that should be judged, not their looks. Treat everyone you meet, from CEOs, CPAs, shop clerks, mechanics, neighbors and the homeless, with equal respect or like Bill Burr equal disrespect.

@RockPolitics First off the Lincoln-Douglas debates of fame were between candidate Lincoln and incumbent IL Senator STEPHEN A. Douglas. Douglas favored slavery and Lincoln found slavery a "monstrous injustice" and said he "hated" it from the get go. Second the debates were some of the most publicized up to that point and reached national attention. Lincoln was not perfect. Knowing these debates were to sway the vote of the IL legislature whose vote determine the winner, Lincoln did say he was not in favor of equality. Fredrick Douglass(two s) was very critical of Lincoln during his presidency for this especially with regard to unequal pay of colored soldiers, and prisoner treatment. However, Lincoln said about Fredrick Douglass "“There is no man in the country whose opinion I value more than yours.” Frederick Douglass himself later said that Lincoln "“was emphatically the black man’s President: the first to show any respect to their rights as men.” This was said by Douglass at Lincoln's eulogy, after Lincoln did the cowardly thing of getting assassinated.

I can't remember the basketball coach it's attributed to, but a buddy in high school wanted a bumper sticker that said "I'm not racist, I hate everybody equally." The older I get and the less peopley I want to be, the more I ascribe to this sentiment. And it's not even that I "hate" anybody-- it's that my tolerance for the quantity of feckwits is rapidly decreasing. I think the only things I truly hate are Bradford Pears.😂 Even my decades long despisement of Ponderosa Pine isn't as strong as my loathing of Bradford Pears.

Yes, exactly, have a conversation. That is our (as a society) problem. We need to realize that we do see color and should recognize that there are differences in cultures. However, we should all treat each other with respect because we can all learn from one another. Much respect to you sir, keep up the great videos.

Right!?! I was thinking, have I ever said that before “I’m not racist-but…” then I realized I’d never say that cos I kinda am. Ok, no I’m *really not* but still... People in general reject what’s unfamiliar; other classes, races, ages, you get my point, are all different than ourselves, meaning no obvious similarities, meaning no obvious commonalities. It’s inherent to gravitate towards familiarity.

Thanks for the part where you say you would hear someone out. I had some "friends" who are teachers. I asked them about Juneteenth because who better to ask than educators... It was one of the worst conversations I ever witnessed. I just wanted to learn something. I was told I was so racist I didn't even know it. Like wtf? They told me I was "playing dumb". About two seconds after all that nonsense I saw like half the country asking the same questions. Apparently, many of us didn't know what it was. Needless to say, I don't entertain those people and their offended ways any longer. Watching your video and hearing you say that was on point with me sir. I appreciate you.

I have worked in environments where I was one of only a few white people and I’ve heard people of all colors say racist things about every race. The difference is that when it’s said about white people; it is genuinely the belief out there that you can’t be racist against white people. I was also told once by a person of color”you’re not one of the bad white people; you’re one of the good ones.” I literally thought that what they were saying was so racist but I didn’t feel like I could say that. I was not offended; but I didn’t want to fight that battle. I just didn’t say anything. In a lot of situations I would just sit there and listen and not say a word.

I grew up in West Memphis. I didn't realize racism was still even a thing... until my parents moved to a small town in central Arkansas in 1989 when I was 15. That shit was not quiet. The whole town was up in arms over its first interracial couple, and even though I'm white, I still got fucked with by rednecks because of the way I talked and carried myself. At 17, I got the fk outta there and went back to West Memphis. My friends back home thought it was hilarious, but that shit was traumatizing. I left West Memphis in my mid 20s, and travelled alot since then and it didn't take long to realize how pervasive that shit still is. I live in Missouri now, and when I moved into my house just six years ago, one of the neighbors stopped to introduce himself while I was out working in my yard. The shit he proceeded to talk is still some of the worst shit I've ever heard come out of somebody's mouth. And to him, this was just a casual conversation! Now I'm a total hermit. People are just too fkd up to even deal with.

Im a child of irish Catholic immigrants, mothers side from northern Ireland. I understand how easy it is to slip into an us vs them mindset, the Irish Catholic vs English or ulster protestants has been a continuous struggle for 500 years and fighting has slowed but in no way has it stopped. I was raised knowing the people I came from including living family lived though their land being taken, there language and religion outlawed, ( it was illegal for the native Irish to even own land) . I was told stories about how the famine was an extremely successful genocide 2/3 of the population dead or displaced. And how after the fight for freedom in the south the English still held on to the north where my grandfather and grandmother were isolated to their own neighborhoods and guarded by British soldiers. I grew up hearing all that and it was so easy for me to feel self-righteous knowing that i was the victim and was on the right side of history. But now i have cousins who married protestants in belfast and love them just the same. And i hear stories of their relatives being hurt by ira bombs...When we dont check ourselves and just let our victimhood silence our own conscious then we will always find away to excuse our hate towards others and these brutalities will keep happening.

Man, you just made me feel ancient. I watched Roots on TV when it first came out. Okay, okay, so I am 64 and ancient. But you didn’t have to make me face it today. Love your video.❤❤ I am so glad I grew up on military bases and went to school on base. It was my senior year when my father retired and we moved to NC before I was ever exposed to bigotry. On the bases people lived, worshipped, shopped, went to school with people. I grew up and was friends with people from different races and religions. Went to school, parties, dances,spent the night, went camping, sports, and church. I heard about segregation in schools and businesses but never understood what was happening until we moved here. I was plopped into an area where some people didn’t like my father because he was white, others didn’t like my mother because she was Native American, and others didn’t like me because of my friends of any color that wasn’t the same as theirs. At my age I still don’t get it.

I’m married to an Asian woman. And I, too, have traveled extensively…when we are stateside we both get the stink face frequently. From white people (I am white) … we’ve gotten used to it.. and when we’re in SE Asia…she gets a lot of looks (we’ve been together for 14 years) from her people. I do as well but she gets more. It’s fascinating. The one thing stateside is that people of color are more friendly to us..go out of their way to say hi, etc. I assume it’s because I don’t fit the stereotype since I’m with her… humans are tribal. Like you, I’m not particularly…I’ll talk about anything with anyone.. Anyway very positive and nice reaction

I’m 51. When I was a kid, in the 70s and 80s, there was a lot of talk about prejudice vs racism, and one thing we were taught was that racism was all about power, and you couldn’t be racist if you didn’t have power. You could be prejudiced…but not racist. Kind of a dumb distinction without a difference now, but I think that’s what some people are talking about when they say they can’t be racist.

This was really cool! It's so nice to know that there are other people out in this world that feel the same way as I do, about freedom of speech, and the way it's being blown out of proportion, and being used as a way to make it seem like it's a 'group" racial way of acting towards different colors and beliefs! And the media and hysteria that is caused by those that get offended and want to suppress this HONEST opinion and don't want things like this talked about are the cause of many problems! As the saying goes,"out of the mouths of babes", it's meaning to speak as if we are children. Unaware of all the bias and racist ideas that have been made by infected adults and the cause of issues that have made this world so cold and unaccepting of being different! Being able to speak out like an innocent child, that only wants to learn,(key word,"learn") to know why this person is different, or why someone is offended, is a natural reaction! To NOT be able to question and then learn about things that are different is not natural! If we are allowed to speak as children and learn these things, we will grow up with knowledge and understanding of things that would scare us if suppressed!! It starts at a young age and will go one way or the other, if left to those that want to take away the right to speak freely! And the media jumps on it, because it makes them money! If the world wants to be better, then we all need to speak up, and NOT participate in being a part of this way of thinking! Bill Burr makes a good point! And he is not the only one that feels this way about how it's being overdone and out of control! If the movies are entertaining, BUT, are sending the wrong message, then do NOT go see that movie! Don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution!! Bill Burr is funny! The subject matter is NOT funny, in truth! He speaks for myself and others and I applaud his efforts and his ability to say what he wants and send a message that is truthfully and funny at the same time! He should be a teacher at the comedy club! But, oops, they will probably censor him or make him give a formal apology or something stupid, if he speaks out on something that offense someone! Lighten up already! He is a comedian! It's a joke! Laugh or just shut the f*''ck up!!

Roots was a fiction novel, the author even admitted he just wanted to give a narrative. Not that nothing like that ever happened back then, but he didn't pull any of that from historical accounts. 'member Cool Runnings (1993)? loosely based on the debut of the Jamaican national bobsleigh team at the 1988 Winter Olympics. The Jamaican members of the team Harris and Brown both note that the tension between the Jamaicans and other teams at the Olympics was completely fictional as well. In Cool Runnings, the East German bobsleigh team tormented the Jamaicans, but Harris recalls specific moments when the East Germans were nice to them.
