I don’t understand why you carry so much weight on the belt and why you carry the snorkel…

Thank you for the question! I’d be glad to answer. 1. About the weight - we wish to optimize the speed of the descent during the whole dive, so this makes the sled vs my body ratio more optimized for controlled descent speed. As you know the wetsuit makes us positively buoyant, especially in the first part of the dive, so we wish to optimize it to be neutrally buoyant at 10 metres. While adding too much weight on the sled itself, we will gain too much speed after the first part of the dive and this isn’t what we want nor aim for, as we trained equalization skills. 2. Snorkel - I use snorkel for most of the breathups on the surface for a very simple and scientifical reason - one of the main MDR triggers is while our face is submerged in the water. Yes, the alternative is also to wrap some sponge around the snorkel to make it buoyant and leave it on the surface once the breathup has finished and the dive starts. But as we trained NL, the tiny drag caused by the snorkel attached to my head was not an issue. Hope you got your answers! Dive safe.

Hi Aerwyna! Thanks for your comment. These are Carbonio GFT VTR fiberglass fins (soft stiffness) with Salvimar footpocket. One of the most comfortable and versatile fins I’ve used so far.
