Love and identity don't need to be static or permanent, if today the label that fits the most is "gay" but tomorrow it's something else, that's totally fine! @@lilymcmanaway I didn't say she wasn't, I don't remember her exact words, but she said something along the lines of not wanting to say she's gay because it's something so big, and a lot of people are afraid of saying they identify with a certain label because it feels like you're signing up for something permanent, and if in the future you don't feel the same anymore people would think you lied or were faking it, my comment was trying to reassure her that if "gay" is what fits her now but later she realizes she's something else, it is fine.

@@lilymcmanaway This is true! I think the original commenter was just trying to acknowledge Fran's feelings about her identity and how she isn't sure just yet. She might find out she's a lesbian and has always been a lesbian, and I don't think the original commenter was trying trying imply that all lesbians are sexually fluid and somehow 'chose' to only like women. Some people really do have static sexual orientations, and have never and will never experience sexual fluidity. That said, for a lot of people sexual orientation is a lot more complex than that. And sometimes it isn't even really about sexually fluidity - for a lot of queer people they just aren't at a point where they know 'what' they are exactly, especially if they're coming out later in life, or maybe they do know but they're finding it hard translate it into the available language. For those people, it can be really scary to say that they're gay even if they think or know that is likely true, because there is always that fear of being wrong - especially because we live in a society that likes to make it seem like sexual orientation is 'obvious' and self-evident from a young age for everyone. Saying you're gay and realizing you're wrong later on can be nerve wracking for a lot of people for this reason so it can really stall their progress when coming to terms with their identity as a queer person. Sometimes being affirmed in the fact that you are allowed to be wrong or change labels is comforting for THOSE people in particular. If someone is sure that they are a lesbian then that message is typically not meant for them. They don't need to be affirmed about potentially being wrong because they aren't wrong. They know who they are so that advice doesn't apply to them.

honestly as someone who's only ever really fallen out with exes for lifestyle differences, hearing you say "being a couple was only one small part of our relationship" meant a Whole lot to hear, and believe me when i say i felt that and understand that completely. if you have a lot of foundation outside of that to move from and you both want the best for each other, of course it's possible to stay friends with people you were with - and tbh, in my experience it's totally worth the effort to still have someone who understands you so well around. anyway this is all to say thank you so much, as always, for your openness, and I wish you all the best in your new lives moving forward with this, whatever that may look like

You also have to keep in mind that it's not like he found out she was gay and then they filmed this video immediately after. They've been through therapy, they've processed their respective emotions, and from what they said they were already growing apart emotionally in a romantic sense. Ed also seems like a pretty emotionally mature person. But all that aside, we have to remember that we're seeing the end result of months of work and communication. At this point they've probably both accepted it, so it seems like he had no initial negative reasons or emotional hurt, when that might not be the case at all.

I love you two! - loved this video and could really tell/feel how you to care about each other and are in each other's lives for the better. You two are just wonderful, kind and amazing people. Thank you for such an insight into what a loving and kind response to something like this could be. Often, especially in tv/movie/radio - breakups are shown as quite the opposite and what is often the normal set of behaviors.

ah i have almost exact situation with my ex-husband/current roommate family best friend!hah and as scary and hard it was to break up in the first place - i couldn't wish for a better life now. It's so weird to break up when "nothing happened" and for a while I felt like I should've second guessed myself much more than I did (especially considering that breaking up could've meant I have to move out of europe and the lengthy process of trying to get eu passport could've been interrupted and i had to start again from zero, which i'm SO happy i didn't have to do in the end), but i wouldn't change anything if I could go back, I wish you two to find even better connection and new layers of relationships that haven't been there before in your new lives! i love watching you and i'm glad you have such a supportive community around you to accept you and give you tons of love, you deserve all of it.

So glad you have found a healthy, and joyful, way forward. I was 27 when I came out. Some of us are late bloomers. It's wonderful that you two have your solid friendship and are so supportive of each other.

Yes Fran! Super duper proud of you. My partner and I are going through huge personal development are figuring out how our roles within the relationship are evolving. It's super weird and beautiful so I get it. I hope you're both happy and healthy

Fran, luv, could you pls talk more about your journey of self discovery?? I think your experience is more common for women than is imagined. I am on the same path! In a patriarchal society lesbianism is basically invisible or is shamed. also all of the socializing girls go through that enforces heteronormity and their reliance / devotion to men!
