This isn't the end of NMS. Not even close. What it is, is an end to an era. It has always been about the Atlas and us, but the Atlas path has been updated. There are major repercussions to your choices at the end now. Or rather there will be. There's a good chance they're going to change how they update the game, but it's not going anywhere anytime soon. Sean's early interviews need to be taken with a bag of salt. First of all, those "promises" were made years before the game was released. Being the rookie dev that he was, yes, he got excited and said there would be things in the game that he "thought" he could pull off in those years. He was wrong, but he kept his promises, where it made sense, eventually. It's also important to remember, this extreme introvert, also had Sony execs breathing down his neck, he lost his house, and he nearly had to change the name of the game 6 months before release because a British cable company thought they had a patton on "Sky". The poor guy went through a personal shit storm after those interviews.

I followed NMS for two years before it was released and have been playing it since day one. While many were disappointed in the original game, I loved it. I realized it had a great deal of potential and could be something great if HG stood by their project. They did. Over the years, NMS has become an amazing game. Every update, every expansion and every expedition was free. After the debacle over the initial launch, Sean became very reclusive. He often tweeted out cryptic emojis when something new was about to be released. After every new update, they always say, "the journey continues..." It will for quite awhile I think. LNF will be amazing I think. HG has learned a lot over the years as they worked on NMS. They can take all that knowledge and apply it to LNF. I am looking forward to it.
@MandrakeDCR10 ай бұрын
They still have at least the one major update to put out - the end of the "Void Mother" story arc - part 4/4 has never dropped yet. The new altered spacestations were not in this update, most assume that's being held back as a part of that story or similar... Beyond that, I do think NMS will go into 'maintenance mode' when LNF launches, and that is why we got the expeditions terminal in the Anomaly - likely they will put out an expedition or two every year, and I envision the terminal will at some point open up to allow us to replay any of the expeditions at any time for fun, etc. So, I'm stoked for both the sunset and continuation of NMS and the introduction of LNF. Ok, I am SUPER stoked for LNF, but I've clocked in just over 4k hours now on NMS, so I won't be putting it away any time soon XD

initially the promise to deliver the vastness of scope in gameplay was a bit underwhelming in the content area, but as a new concept it was still mind blowing. you could potentially spend a lifetime exploring the galaxy going to each planet. the fact that you could actually go under the surface of the world, on top, and above. get in a ship, take off, go into the atmosphere of the planet, go into space, and then land on the same planet or travel in real time to another one was unheard of in most games (aka: the loading screen) when i started playing i was still impressed as to the future potential for next generation games to take advantage of what had been done and expanding on it. though the maker of No Mans Sky kept adding more content for FREE, while most companies would of gone the paid DLC route for the cash grab, and they slowly sculpted the game into what they originally declared. which is why when Light No Fire comes out, i want to be one of the first ones to enjoy it, and explore another new groundbreaking concept of fantasy RPG's. so kudos for people that may have grand ambitions, but also stick around to deliver what was promised instead of bailing on a project, or expect people to keep giving bucket loads of cash in "dlc's" in what would help complete the game

Omega also means "Great" or the best so not necessarily the end imo. Also it could be the end of a chapter and the beginning of the next, I doubt this is the end of NMS. Could also be they are taking a break to 100% focus on light my fire and then keep them both updated, guess that would be the best scenario. Great vid ty Ginger Prime.

I was in the market for a good yet STABLE Sci-Fi video MMo/ Video game I could sit back and relax playing.. NO MANS SKY won out. (Ex-Trekkie here). I got No Mans Sky before I even Knew about the issues they had at launch.. Because I was very IMPRESSED with the games stability and UI when! I purchased it. Once I learned about his earlier hiccups, I have to say. The CEO made an amazing come back..! As I played No Mans Sky I come the appreciate the compromises Hello Games made with the software to make it Stable and a Playable Science Fiction Video Game. I recommend No Mans Sky to the older less Tech savvy 40+ with non-code day jobs to purchase and play the game.! No mans Sky is a very stable and relaxing enjoyable game to play, and I hope Hello Games continue build on the this game. (for as long as the tech allows them) With Hello Games also, you get an excellent Product for a decent price without all of the Cult like Bate and Switch a game like STAR CITIZEN would toss at you. Regular weekend gamer here to say.. Keep up the Good work Hello Games..!

Only worries for me... exploration feels a tad hollow in No Man's Sky and Multiplayer rarely holds a team of 4 together longer than an hour with no bugs... With Light No Fire looking to be multiplayer focused and exploration heavy going by the teaser... I have concerns... And.. what is the game objective of Light No Fire ? And will the missions be less generic and dull than those in No Man's Sky???

I think they will put most or all their efforts on LNF. I have 960+ hours in on NMS and I'm far from coming close to exploring everything. The amount of content in NMS is truly amazing. I think NMS could still last a few more years with only a little attention, update and maintenance and still generate revenue or interest in HG. I would love to see LNF have the same business model, however I do not think that will be the case. If they charge for expansions, they just need to have have expansion quality updates.

I think NMS started 6 years ago in my life looking like, Poo. I hated NMS. I came back to NMS during the Utopia expedition because my co-host & followers asked me to stream NMS Utopia because it was awesome. So, I did what my followers & co-host wanted & I haven't been able to put my controller down since. Yesterday during my Live Stream, we saw the new ship & I was silenced. I fell in love with the Starbourn. I couldn't speak in its majestic appearance. Today when I play & Stream, I will be getting on with the expedition so I can get my thumb & finger on that fantastic Starbourn, & then I'll go back to exploring mode, slow explanatory game play for my audience who enjoy slow exploration. NMS was once a pile of smelly Poo, but now, NMS is Magnificent & I think it is time we paid for these updates, which by other games production studios, would be a DLC & cost about £10-£15. Hello Games have completely turned NMS into an absolute Masterpiece. I can't put the damn controller down & I cannot remember where the bathroom is. Gosh, what's that stink? Oh, ha! It's me. Shower or Stream NMS? NMS is a great diet. I have over 100 Xbox games but I only play & stream 1.

it doesnt make sense to revamp expeditions only to the last expedition. I believe there would be more. but likely the subset of the team working on it will be very small. @Ralatar110 ай бұрын
Given this will be a procedural theme'd world if you will there would be little reason given current advancements to not tie this in as a world reachable via No Man's Sky as has been brought up. If this works like it should they would likely be able to bring in other theme'd worlds as well, all connectable via NMS. That would keep NMS as a bridge (needed to purchase to traverse) these theme'd worlds. Just food for thought.

They are wrapping things up, there is a reason why they are working on another game. $$$ NMS isn't that popular. We have also learned that from a bad state to a decent state doesn't attract more players. Initially NMS had around 212K players, now daily with the update 11k. But without you see 8K of daily steam players. To compare, Stardew valley has overall around 40k daily players. for a 2D game. People need to connect and that is NMS major problem. There is not a single option to connect to this game, the lore is crazy and weird there is nothing in NMS to care for. And the lack of a healthy active player base shows is.

Seems like beta testing things for the new game. My guess is they would test software for that game in this game. Hopefully in the new game, they find a way like WoW that allows for content of a lot of different gaming in one game. Yes, exploring is fun, but you goto a few worlds, and it's all the same. Same missions, same results. Sure the scenery is a little different, but the results are always the same. Player economies, player crafting and selling, Player vendor stations (like back in star wars galaxies) There's so much they could be doing with these new games. This game is big enough where it could emcompass all game play genre's. Potential. Now where will they go with it all... time will tell. There could be mining communities, tech colonies that create new tech for fighting new creatures on new planets. Fleet battles. Space station takeovers... Like i said. So much potential.
