No Marvel Legends HasLab is Biggest News from ML Panel

The Marvel Legends team had a killer showing at San Diego Comic Con, but the biggest news no doubt has to be that the HasLab program is taking at least a one-year hiatus. Instead, the ML team is experimenting with a new means to get large, but not the largest Marvel Legends out to us. Here's why that's the best pivot yet.

That's a great point you made that I hadn't considered. Hopefully this will entice them to do more large scale figures that aren't HasLab scale. I still want a 12 inch Hank Pym Goliath, and I would love some classic Cockrum/Byrne era Sentinels but they can be 15-18 inches tall.

Absolutely, and I believe I heard Ryan or Jesse say that the idea is to bring more large scale figures to us in this fashion, but they will need to see how this first effort works out with Dragon Man. I'm all in for ALL the giants.

After my last post, I just saw a KZbin short that showed a Dragon Man prototype at SDCC and he had all-grey wings. I wonder if those are going to be the alternate wings - one set of gray and one set with the weird orange color? I hope so, because that'll save me the hassle of repainting him! 😃

@@inkazoom45 Man, I hope not that much. Hasbro is greedy. Collecting is becoming a very expensive hobby. If Odin is $60, then I'd hope that Dragon Man is no more than $60-$65. Even that just feels a bit much. I guess it seems that way because I grew up in the 60s and 70s and I remember Mego Superhero figures being sold for $1.75, which with inflation would be equivalent with $12 per figure today. Ah, the good old days!

Dragon Man looks AMAZING. I just don't understand where the orange wings are coming from. In all my reading years, I've only ever seen him with all gray wings that match his body color. Did that color change happen in some modern comics I don't know about? I'll definitely be getting him though, but I will have to customize him and re-paint his wings all gray. But man, he looks just fantastic! (No pun intended).

Idk what it would've been, but it is a relief not to worry about another Haslab. I already did the cantina. I will do the Rattler, too. Even though I do buy Transformers, I never backed any of thier Haslabs. I guess that means the coast is clear for the rest of the year, after the Rattler.

This is a great way to keep price down on larger figures since don't have to have the extra figures tied to it to get it raising the price. Plus dont have to pay year and half in advance is a plus

I think they didn't announce the preorder in part to let the positive news of this philosophy settle in, before exposing their pricing (errr... overpricing) for this *_"made-to-order"_* figure. I have no connection to this character, so wouldn't get it even if it was at a $150, or even $100 pricepoint. As for a made-to-order figure in the 10.5" - 18" size range I'd be down for: [1] Apocalypse (any larger size, even up to haslab size & price) [2] CotA/MvC2 Sentinel. They could either integrate transforming options for its flight mode, or have swap out parts for it and/or some of it's special moves, like *_rocket punch._* It might be a popular time to release that type of figure as a bundled collection of the versus video games are getting released, which might rekindle the popularity of MvC2.

Great video! I agree. I'm glad Dragon Man is not a HasLab. I bought the Sentinel, but passed on Galactus as the Sentinel was just too big and unwieldly. It's too bad they didn't do this with Galactus. I would have been happy with just a 14 - 16 inch version. Also, I love that I won't have to pay upfront.

Freakin' Marvel Legends! Every time I think I'm out...I'm looking forward to getting a pair (maybe 2 pair) of those Sentinels. They said that they will be over 7 inches. I for one, like the idea of Sentinels at various scales, but they should definitely always be larger than most of your figures. I'm a Crystal fan and have wanted a Lock Jaw for a while. Those look pretty fun. Quick Silver is a character that I've never had in figure form and the green suit is what I think of with him. I think it's the first costume I saw him in. Wong looks good too. Probably not for me, especially in a 2-pack at full price, but still a nice looking figure. Punisher and Bushwacker are another decent set. I could use an update to my ToyBiz Punisher, but this is a wait and see for me. All of the Deadpool stuff are also maybes for me, even though I don't get a ton of MCU figures Now DRAGONMAN on the other hand is one I am very interested in. I'm excited for ROM too.Like you, I knew him has a comic character that disappeared. The toy was before my time, so I wasn't aware of it until later. I don't think I'll be preordering much, probably just Pulse exclusives like the Sentinels. I am honestly okay with no Marvel HasLab for a minute. That announcement also makes me wonder what affect it will have on the Rattler, now that folks won't be saving up waiting for a Marvel HaLab. See ya on the next live stream.

TBH, there is no real difference between a made to order preorder and a Haslab. The main difference is people's attitude towards it. So many people said they would only back the Haslab after they got funded, which is backwards thinking.

I’m gonna hold on until I see the price. If this ends up being close to a Haslab price, I’m not getting. There’s a reason why they made it “made to order”. Hopefully they add more accessories to justify the price when revealed. 🤷‍♂️

I'm glad they aren't doing a Haslab. They seem to have lost the vision of what a Haslab is supposed to be. The argument -which isn't a very good one but at least it was an argument - is that Haslabs were reserved for incredible projects that would not otherwise see the light of day. The problem seems to be that Hasbro just adamantly and foolishly refuses to do basic market research such as polls and surveys. They simply arrogantly try to interpret why one Haslab works while others fail. I can think of plenty of Haslabs that would work. For example, an Avengers Quinjet with tiers of Jarvis and a prototype Ultron would fund, I can guarantee that. Plus there would be no complaints of character paywalls. The problem with not doing Haslabs is that we'll never see a quinjet or an Eternity or Living Monolith or any of the various characters large enough to warrant a Haslab size release. I would have loved to see a classic Arishem Celestial Haslab backed by a wave of classic Eternals. Not gonna happen. I still insist, based on the research (and others who've done the research agree) that Giantman did not actually fund - they had to fudge the numbers not to have a 2nd back-to-back failure to fund. This hypothesis is enforced by the decision not to do a ML Haslab this year. It is starting to look like Hasbro is trying to jack up the price of their two-packs and special releases though (perhaps to make up for the money they're losing from not doing a Haslab?). Odin, for example, looks awesome - and I am ordering him - but I can't justify the $60 price point. That's just ridiculous. Phoenix being $50 because they threw in an extra 15¢ worth of plastic is also way too high a price. And now Kang is being released with a chair that has existed for sale on Etsy for at least two years now and that's $60. And then there's Crystal/Lockjaw which will probably end up being $60. I do hope they start releasing some 12" figures in a decent price range - Sentinels, Giant Man, Goliath, Black Goliath, Growing Man, etc. But they'd need to have these at a decent price point - not $75 like Super-Adaptoid. Or was he $65? Still too much. I also wish they'd go back to doing themed waves instead of these bizarre mish-mash groupings of unrelated figures. For example, hopefully when they release Dragon Man, he'll be part of an FF wave that includes the rest of the Inhumans and some FF villains. Maybe Mole Man and the Frightful Four. We're missing so many major villains - there's a dearth of villains in comparison to the number of heroes - and part of that is because they just keep churning out hundreds of variants of the same damned characters over and over and over again. Do we REALLY need 50 different versions of Wolverine, for example?

Wildly popular suggestions for Haslabs have been ignored. It seems lately that they just make things up as they go along. Regarding HasLab and Marvel Legends, i think it is wise that they don't release a HasLab project every year. This approach allows them to focus on producing a greater variety of figures and thematic waves, as well as individual character releases. Given this year's emphasis on two-packs, deluxe figures, and themed waves, it seems they are aiming to maintain a positive profit trend. By avoiding the risks associated with a potentially unsuccessful HasLab campaign, they are likely focusing on more reliable revenue streams.

I think no Marvel Legends HasLab is a great move. It’s been a banner year, and the line has so much positive momentum right now. Why ruin it with the negativity and ill will that would almost certainly come with another HasLab campaign? I think what they’re doing with Dragon Man is a much better idea.

I believe Hasbro made the mistake of thinking Haslabs need to be a constant cycle. That isn't the case. They need to be utilized as the situation demands it. I'm thinking the Hellcharger brought that to their attention.

I’m so glad that the most miserable fandom second only to black series fans will not be getting a HasLab. I have said this for over a year that haslabs for marvel legends is a bad investment for Hasbro. I have never seen a fandom actively hate a toy line as much as marvel legends fans do. It’s baffling. Now two GIJOE Haslabs are in play and they would fund because there is no greater fandom than GIJOE FANS. We come out for every HasLab, every figure. The line is so good that people who know nothing about GIJOE want it and collect it. Bravo Hasbro for seeing that the ROI on this fandom is ZERO. ONLY GIJOE IS GIJOE!!

This would allow figures like Goliath, Living Monolith, The Sphinx, Sentinels (smaller version), Bi-Beast (Hulk #169 & 216) , and maybe even Quintronic Man (Hulk #213 for you 'youngins'). Eternity or Living Tribunal would be cool at larger scale, as would a classic Watcher figure (FF #13 or John Byrne era). A new & better Sasquatch would be great! He's 10' tall, after all. The Arsenal robot or Devil Dinosaur are now possibilities! Now there's no excuse not to do Spider Slayer robots, Mandroids, etc. I'd love to see a nice, bulky, 9" tall Blastarr or something like that! Opens up a lot of avenues! I hope Dragon Man's not too expensive. I can see paying $100-120 for him, but beyond that, I think that's pushing it.

I hope they make Fin Fang Foom. There aren't any other figures they could have used to push the engine of vengeance to fund. First, they 'celebrate' 50 years of ghost rider with a character from 2014 that isn't that popular. He's more popular from the show agents of shield than the comics. Mephisto shouldn't be teir. Unless it's a variant, and they still release a classic one. They lied about my being able to make 'demonic' figures. Mephisto, Blackheart, and Goblin Queen are not demonic. Daimon is the closest of the 4 to a 'demonic' figure. With him being the son of Satan and having a pentagram on his chest. Yet they are releasing him as he look in the haslab. Hasbro just need to listen to the fans and give us what we want. We're willing to pay.

I'm going to be completely honest with you and please understand this is not meant to be disrespectful offensive in any way to anyone. But let's keep it 100 HASBRO was not listening to you! They realized that this figure was way too small to do a haslab with and it really has nothing to accompany with they were afraid that it would fail like the engine of greed so it was better than just not to do it and it put their resources on something else that's more viable as far as supply and demand. That's really what it is they also didn't want to spend the money and the tooling to make it a proper size.
