Was there in May..can confirm it’s extremely sketchy! 😂 homeless / drug addicts on all of the trains and busses. Honestly you’ll be okay if you visit sights during the day it’s mainly at night where it gets 10x more sketchy. Funny enough I stayed in Santa Monica and I would def say it’s by far the most “safe” feeling area of LA..the beaches during the day (even at night) is safe for sure (except Venice beach) that area felt sketchy at all times lol

It isn’t the same as it used to be. They keep changing the buildings ( ie the viper room will not be redone with apartments above it. The house of blues moved to a different location to make room for apartments.) Homeless got worse. Etc.

I visited LA for the first time (from the UK) and was very disappointed with the condition of the walk of fame and the Hollywood area in general. I felt so unsafe walking down there even in the early evening. Having said that, Santa Monica & Venice Beach was fantastic and full of the energy I was expecting. Take care Simon

Grew up visiting LA, and Santa Monica in particular, in the 80's and it was always great. Was there in 2019 and the stories were true; it's a shit hole. Homeless everywhere, being told not to wander more than a few blocks back from the beach, only being a few blocks in most directions before facing the inevitable threat of crime. LA has nosedived. No wonder so many affluent people are moving out. Great video mind Simon! Just be safe.......

I’m also from Wales and travelled to LA last year with my partner and 10 year old daughter. We were also surprised with how rough the subway was. There were so many homeless and mentally ill people, people on drugs. We expected it to be like metro systems in other big cities but it was an eye-opening and scary experience. The Santa Monica line felt like the safest, we relaxed a bit more on that train. But we will def stick to Ubers if we go back to LA.
