No, I haven't...can you elaborate? I have gesso I've bought....

@jameshuntley9674 spread the gesso on the board first then paint on top of that. The gesso makes the cardboard white and not brown.

Copy machine paper is very cheap and the quality is decent i think

Absolutely...the artist Walter Anderson made a career out of watercolors on copy paper...
