​@Devon James couple different ways.. You can go cover 2 man straight up ..press shade outside and user safety that's on the short side . Make them force a tight throw . However.. you will take the farside safety and simply move him out and a little in and re zone him . Now with you shortside user play the middle for slants seams or posts . In cover 4 bring both safites down about 5 yards . Man BOTH curl flat defenders. Press ..shade out . User middle and lurk .

Zan, a while back you posted a video telling us not to shade down match quarters....but what about shading UP match quarters? Not only does that put curl flats on the field but it also helps alleviate the good old fashioned streak from the TE which is an issue in regs where many safeties don't have the play recognition that you MUT guys get to enjoy. Thoughts?

You can shade match if you know what you're sacrificing. The big thing here is understanding that if you're in a coverage where a quarter flat has to match a slot WR or a RB wheeling, and you don't have them on the field, you're going to give up a coverage bust. My "don't shade" narrative is mostly for beginners who get upset when they give up a big play (as 90% of the time, it's the reason why they did). Once you're comfortable with offensive alignments and your match rules based off your playcall, you can take whatever risks you want. It's the channels that tell these players to call Quarters shaded down vs. Tight (but don't explain what I just detailed above) that perpetutate the narrative of "Match being bad" - and it's because they teach some really bad habits without explaining the ramifications vs. other plays/sets/route combos.

@@ZANmadden I hear you, and thanks for the reply. Makes sense. Lately against tight I've been shading up and then manually hard flatting one of the former quarters guys, while manning up the other one on the RB. It takes away the wheel from the RB as you mentioned. The other thing I've been doing is turning the outside quarter into an outside third on the two receiver side . This completely shuts down plays like PA seams (hot route master isn't a thing in regs). Your channel is awesome btw. I've been watching you vids for a long time.

It's interesting that the logic of having the quarterflat match the corner seemed intentional by EA and removing him causes the others to play correctly. I'm not sure what EA was going for there.

Yep, the "man up" just tells the bunch side safety to match something else. The weak side safety is cheating to the bunch side because he has no "slot" on his side pre-snap to match

I have played the match stuff.. yes things get open but the zone knockouts will knock it out 8 out of 10 times.. match is damn near more powerful than man ko's with inside shade

To each their own. Short In is basically Route Tech w/ CIT bonuses as long as your WR is lined up inside the numbers. There's not enough routes in the game that Route Tech lights up where Route Tech (to me) is worth offsetting the CIT boosts associated with SIE/SOE.
