That’s a nifty rig right there . Here’s an idea for you to try with it . I’m sure you have a lot of bark that falls off the wood . An I’m wondering if you could feed the bark threw the top might have to regrind it once but I’m thinking the end product would be mulch like people buy in bags might have to let it age for a few months but you would have a endless supply to mulch ya flower beds or to bag an sell at the rd side stand . I wanted to rent a machine like yours last yr to try it but never got around to trying it . Might even make a good video trash to cash if it works .

The chipper works well. For what you’re doing, the chips will work on keeping the mud down. Foothills firewood brought up the same point. When laying chips down, I don’t think you will have problems driving you wheeler and trailer on chips. They don’t weigh so much. In time the chips rot and retain water and the ground don’t dry out. When using a skid loader or compact tractor or heavier equipment when we have wet conditions the equipment breaks through into the mud on the bottom. With multiple travel through an area you got a slop hole. Brad seen that at his firewood get together this winter. If you get a compact tractor,don’t lay mulch haul in crushed rock asphalt tailing. I’ve done it in an area and certainly wish I hadn’t. Enough said. Take care you two. Al

Yeah Allen. I realize that the chips will break down. My plan is to just keep down on the splattering of mud from rain on the firewood. Since we are such a small scale operation I plan on just racking the chips into the creek every spring and just chipping new ones. Tha ground underneath is pretty solid. Appreciate ya watching 👊🏻

I may be mistaken, but as an old HCAC guy, I believe you coulg figure out a way to connect a flex tube of sorts and ditch ste step of emptying the bag. Even if the connector/tube doesn't fit perfectly it should create a ventury effect that will suck air in instead blowing out. Trial and error will get you there, I think. Btw, I'm lovin' it!! 😊

Hey Todd, I didn’t read through the comments to see if this is beating a dead horse but be VERY careful putting down wood chips to create less mud. It will do the opposite. It works great for the first couple weeks but the mulches job is to hold moisture. Everywhere you lay that will be extra mud in due time. I learned the hard way when I asked my tree guy to bring me a load of chips. He warned me against it but I didn’t listen a year later I have 4 inches of mud instead one 2 lol. Probably gonna look into asphalt millings this summer. That’s awesome about the chipper. Great video!

I bought this exact model last year. Mine is starting to shut off randomly as I’m running it and turn back on like it’s a electrical issue or something I’m not sure. It’s still like new and I only used it a few times. Works great other than that. I mainly got it to shred all my tall ornamental grasses when I cut them down every year. I compost so it works out well, I can feed it through the top and basically shoot out hay. It makes quick work of them. When it would turn off I thought maybe it was over heating so I checked my oil and topped it off slightly. Why does it have 2 oil caps? One with a dipstick and one without. Is one for filling and the other for draining?
@toddsoutsideagain
@toddsoutsideagain 3 ай бұрын
I can see how it would work great for ornamental grass. As far as the randomly shutting off, it sounds like an oil sensor, but you said you topped off the oil. You might want to check the wires going to the kill switch. The two oil holes are because most of these engines are made for various uses. Other words and some applications that dipstick might need to be on the right side of the motor and other need to be on the left side to stay out of the way of attachments for a given machine. Thanks for watching and good luck with the issue. I’m sure it’s something simple.
@crazidirtbiker
@crazidirtbiker 3 ай бұрын
@@toddsoutsideagain thank you so much for the reply. It’s kind of a relief you mentioned the oil sensor. I wasn’t sure if it had one. I was using it on a slight hill and maybe it wasn’t level enough and when I topped it off I was already basically done shredding. I have more to do Sunday I’ll see if it still cuts out. If so I’ll know its electrical

Correct. I said in the video that this machine is best suited for small homeowner jobs. Problem is in the last three years I have talked to numerous tree services about wood and chips with no luck! 🤷‍♂️ I took matters into my own hands. I do plan on making smoker chips with it too.
